i had the same problem with this part.
That’s what seperates the “builders” from the boys.
It’s perfectly natural to feel like your PPD is the wrong size. Just remember, its what you do with it that counts.

A note was made on the file of each member that purchased this item in order to get it to them correctly.
All PPD will be made out off 1 1/14 tubing unless it’s the client request other measurements.

i’m going to go out on a limb here and toss my 2 cents in. i went and scaled some things myself and i can see where some are comming up with the 1.25 but i still think 1 .375 holds true myself. the one picture i scaled from i used the clippards as a known since that was the closest known to the parts in question.
one thing that i have noticed when scaling this stuff is things get distorted the futher away you get from the item you are trying to scale.the one picture i was using the tube on the left looked like 1.25 but the one on the right looked like 1.375 but the one that was 1.375 also had the clippard for reference as well. the PPD aslo looked like it was 1.375 from what i could tell.
so what i think this all boils down to is having a part that fits the shell and the 1.375 diameter fit that shell really well. i think the issue is more of a length issue combined with the angle. just from looking at it if that shell is 1.875 high on the face where the PPD sits which i think is probably trure since that is one of John’s shells and he used stefan’s plans for that shell the bottom of the angle sould sit slightly below that face which it does not. the angle should be 45 degrees based on stefan’s plans. i know it is called out weird in his plans but it is a simple 45 degree angle and we know this just by the math. 45’s have the same distance across the part and down. So if you have a diameter of 1.375 that is 3.1875 long the height of the full diameter section meaning from the bottom of the angle to the bottom of the piece should measure 3.1875 - 1.375 =1.8125 and that is called out on the plans as well
I think this might just be a case of maybe a bad part slipping through. it happens at times to all of us and is more likly to happen when you get busy and don’t catch it . But i would not get worked up over it but it would need to be corrected if that was the case.
Having rendered this in 3D, and can safely say that the PPD is 1.25" not 1.375.
regardless of what you have in 3D the shell is still made for a 1.375 diameter PPD and is a good fit for that shell. so until everyone here makes shells the same your are going to have this debate and problem. there is a need for some common standards but until that day comes this is what happens.long term i would like to see some standards but for the short term fix parts that fit shells work for now until that day comes IMO.
right now the the only way to get things as you want them is to scratch built it yourself so you have total control over the entire build. And there are people that do just that here for this reason.So that puts anyone in a tough spot when they offer parts one group is wanting to know whay their parts don’t fit the shell they have and the other group wants to know why when they scale things it’s not a certin size that they come up with. So if you have a solution to this age old quandary i’m all ears because i don’t see it unless things change around here. I spend so much extra time talking to people just so i know what i sell will work for their build for this very reason.
I agree, as a seller, you need to sell parts that fit what others are selling. And currently, stefan’s plans are the standard people build to. Though I agree the PPD, along with the beamline and filler tube, are probably more likely 1.25"; unless the other parts of the shell are built to reflect this change, even the “correct” sized part will look wrong.
Here’s the picture of your new PPD including a picture of the way the Deluxe GB Tube Assembly will be made depending which shell you are using. A note was placed on my files with the correct measurements so when members order these parts, I can provide them with an item that will fit each particular shell.
The PPD is made in 3 sections and it’s hollow to reduce weight. I hope this works out for you as it was made based on the measurements you provided.

**Just wanted to say that I received my new revised PPD from momeraths24 which has a diameter of 1.25" and it fits and looks much better. I’m happy with it, but as Jpa (Jason) mentioned before the angle may also be a little off. The PPD might look better if it came down more (having the bottom part of the angle go as far as the edge of the EDA “the edge above the cylinders w/ the nipples.” For me this works and I’m happy with it so I’m keeping it the way it is.

**So it has been a very last couple days for me especially with having rain this whole week it wasn’t a great time to choose to paint but it was the only time I had to do it. I had to finish my pack by yesterday morning 10-23-2010 for a family event we were attending, it didn’t happen I just finished my pack about 1/4 of the way but I thought I did well for a whole days work. Here is what I was able to accomplish:

Then this Friday (10-22-2010) I dry fitted everything to get an idea of how much work I would have to do and how much I would actually be able to do (Still A LOT OF WORK left):
So, as I mentioned before I didn’t completely finish my pack I didn’t even start assembling my thrower. I didn’t use my aluminum Booster Tube so I had to cut a PVC 2" tube because I’m still hoping to get an aluminum booster frame and want to wait for that before using the aluminum booster tube. I will also be using a resin booster frame (gbdan’s).
This is as far as I was able to get in one day and how I wore it out:

So, I had a thrower made by Jason(jpa35) which I believe is a real beauty and I know most of you have agreed with this belief.
