Ok, so we know from reference pics that the Dale RH-25 resistor was actually not used on the ion arm as many used to believe (the resistor in the PH photos had ridges running up and down, and squared-off screw mounts, where the Dale RH-25 has ridges running from side to side, and rounded-off mounts). Do we know what brand of resistor was in fact used? I’ve personally seen two different brands of resistors that look essentially identical to the actual resistor used on the ion arm. One is a Pacific 25 CH resistor, the other is a Sage M25W (only recently came across this one). Anyone know if either of these two was the resistor actually used? I’ve heard people name the Pacific in the past, but the only Pacific resistor I’ve seen comes in brass & has to be painted black, whereas the Sage comes natuarally black.
Anyone have any insights into this, or is this one of those things where either one would be equally satisfactory?
You can get the Pacific in black and gold. The Pacifics that I have have the squared off mounting tabs whereas I have Sage that are both rounded and squared. Thats all seen in the photos.
This just came up for me, and I did a search of existing screenshots here on GBprops, as well as ones posted on Proptopia from the new DVD editions, and I’ve come up with…ding! Nothing conclusive.
The GB2 ones definitely look more like Pacifics than RH25’s, with a hint of vertical ridges if you squint right. 9,9
The GB1 shots though? I can’t make them out well enough to tell in any of the shots where the ion arm is on-screen from the correct side.
It would make sense in a way, because then all three ion arm resistors would be Dales. But then…why the Pacifics for GB2? Did they change any of the other resistors?
(Personally I think they’re Pacific resistors rather than Sage ones, but I don’t have any proof of that. Almost wish they were Sages, because they’re easier to find in my neck of the woods.)
