How do YOU do it? I mean acrylic pieces, theatrical gels, flashlight cones, circuit boards, battery packs, speakers, anything!

I’m collecting ideas for putting the lights into the main shell of my pack, but I’m also curious about the sound system elements because I know that’s coming up soon, too. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks everybody!

Shane

I believe you have an alkaline shell yes? I recommend using some Ave’s Apoxy Sculpt. If that’s too big of a purchase you can run to Home Depot and get some plumbers Epoxy putty, it’s basically the same thing but hardens much faster and you can buy it in smaller quantities. Hot glue also for some of the stuff.

Yeah, it’s an alkaline shell.

How would you attach things with that putty? Are you just adding mass to the inside of the shell that you can drill into and add anchor points? What do you use to hold things on? I’m sure I could hotglue on the flashlight cones, but I don’t know how sensitive the circuit boards are to that kind of stuff and don’t want to ruin the Exoray board.

PCBs won’t care about hotglue on them.

I"d love to see some shots of the insides of peoples packs. I was considering using longer bolts on everything mounted on the shell. So I could then attach rubber coated clamps to the exspossed threads with nuts.

You can use the putty to create “stands” to drill things like PCB into if you like. I did that for my R2Devo kit in my last pack but I don’t have any pics handy right now.

Like TJ said hot glue is also effective. The one thing about hot glue is that when it gets very cold it tends to separate.

Here are some examples of how I used the Apoxy Sculpt to mount the acrylics and light cones.

For plastic, Decon Plastic Welder works wonders from Sears Hardware. That stuff works on just about anything. I glued on Battery Packs, sound boards, the Acrylic pieces (Which I do NOT recommend in the future, glue blocks out some light if done wrong…)

You drilled into the circuit boards? :-o

Getting some good ideas here, guys. Thanks so far for your posts!

No, most PCB’s and light kits should have mounting holes. If you want to use these holes for screws it’s good to have a base for them to screw into. You never want any boards/kits just resting on the shell, they should be raised so that the underside of the board doesn’t make contact. Sorry if I wasn’t clear before.

I see!! I’m an electronics newbie, so I didn’t know what those extra holes on the Exoray board were for. Thanks for explaining that, Vincenzo!

gorrilla tape works wonders. It held the original lights and batteries in our pack for almost a year yet allowed us easy acces to swap them out for a better model.

Gorilla glue is great for glueing almost anything. Downside is it takes a half hour to set, and abut an hour and a half to cure completely. Soemone posted this useful link a week or so ago as well:
