Happy Halloween all,

Can someone supply an answer as to what battery or batteries that would supply power to an LED sweeper bar unit made for a car that will be used for the powercell on the packs?

I appreciate the input.

Thanks all.

You can try a 9 volt, but cars are a 12 volt system (They actually run at 14-17 volts when running) but in many cases because of a built in voltage regulator anyway a little less voltage like a 9 volt will work…

If the 9volt doesn’t work, then I suggest you visit Radio Shack and see if they have a battery pack holder for 8 batteries (be is AAA, AA, C or D) as that will get your 12 volts…

You can also try a 12 volt battery, they’re really small, about half the length of a AAA battery. You see them alot with the wireless doorbell systems for your house… they are used to power the button that people push to ring the doorbell.

that’s what I plan on using for my powercell and I’m pretty sure we have the same item.

Can I ask what you’re using for the sweeper? I’m currently looking for something like that 😃

I got the idea from someone else here on the board… it’s made by APC and they’re in the “tuner”/fast and furious section of your local auto parts store. I think they’re called directional signals or something like that. They do sweep but with 3 lights at a time… but they are really bright and easy to wire up. hope that helps a bit

Thanks all for your help.

I appreciate it.

This forum, no doubt is the best and always will be.

American Products Company makes LED Sweeper Light. Around $15 bucks or so. Comes in red and blue. I saw it in action and it will be just perfect for the powercell. REAL BRIGHT and to see it in action will blow you away.

It’s nice to have the real thing, but in my mind, to use your own imagination and to create what is similar with your own inginuity and hands, makes it all the more worth the while.

We all have are own things in which we are good at, an to share with others and to learn from others is what it is all about.

Rock on.

For the LED configuration for my [cyclotron](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/equipment/proton-pack/cyclotron) I used a 12 volt sealed lead acid battery. You can pick them up at surplus stores, and electronics stores. They run for a longgggg…time. Best of all they are rechargable, simply plug them into the wall using a 12 volt adapter, and let it charge for 3 hours, and voila, good as new. Only problem is that they are heavy.

Well, I purchased the sweeper lights and tried it with a 9 volt per numerous suggestions and right now I am picking myself up off the floor.

HOLY VIGO I am just floored. Something so simple can just make you go…“wow”.

Thanks to all who have answered my post. I appreciate it. I will post under parmatown up until my franchise kicks in as soon as I send my papers in, then I will guise under our new name. Stay tuned.

Thanks so much once again. It’s nice to deal with real folk.

Just LEDs? Yep, without controlled current LEDs pop like popcorn…

That’s why I’m trying to use lights designed for automotive use… they are supposed to run with no control at all… and using a 12 volt battery source.

I know I should throw a resisitor in there but since I don’t know what I’m doing, I’ll just wire them up straight. Maybe I’ll learn a lesson, maybe not. But sometimes it’s better if we learn ourselves?

Another thing to consider Bigjuan… is what current your leds were designed for and what you applied to them.

If they are 3 volt leds and you put a 9 volt to them, they’ll burn really quick!!

I actually remember having a led explode… like a bullet, complete with popping sound when I was younger. I was trying to use a 9 volt battery to power an led designed for only a few volts… I was attempting to build a tricorder. 😃

Anyway… just throwing that out there.

Could always use eight AA batteries. 🙂
