I bought a pack shell from 145will on ebay (blacklisted i know, i didnt know at the time)

what i want to know is: did anyone else buy one from this guy, and what did he coat the shell in? is it a primer? can i paint over it?

it rubs off on my finger or on a cloth,

You’ll want to wash (soap and warm water) and wet-sand the resin before applying any paint or primer. This is good general practice for all resin items- it will remove any mold release and help prep the surface for paint.

I do have one of those shells (purchased from another board member) and I’m not sure what the original maker painted it with. Appears to just be ultra-flat black paint. Whatever it is, it should be sanded down/removed as best as possible, since as you note the adhesion is very poor. When you wash it, you can use an old toothbrush to get into the cracks.

So I do I have to get all that paint off? I am assuming that’s the case. Decided to take a break, that stuff dries pretty quickly.

You might in order to make paint stick to it. Why not ask the seller, and find out what the deal actually is?
