Ecto Goggles Take 2

I am redoing my goggles, seeing as how I found a REALLY good way to paint/stain the things. I am using the same method I used to paint my grips from my pack.

Striped all the paint off the frames.

A little of this shit goes a long way

1st coat on.

will update shortly

Z what is it that your using to color/paint these?

I’ve tried doing mine to color them black but the paint kept coming out tacky and i tried all the things the peeps here told me to do but needless to say…didnt work.

Finished painting. Unlike the spray paint from last time. This stuff has a NICE flat coat and is not sticky

Went ahead and weathered these a bit

Dr Ph Martin Bombay India Ink

it comes in MANY colors. You can only get it at art supply stores. So no Michael’s or Hobby Lobby for this stuff

Damn…of course there are NO freakin art stores around here…except like Michael’s or Joanne Fabrics, lol.

Thanks tho

Anything to help a fellow Ghosthead

Not a bad effort. Although after my last 2 builds using the welding goggles, I kind of hate them.

When I made mine, I took the flipping shield off. Made them look less oversized and a bit more like the night vission frames.

I checked Micheal’s Tonight and they do sell India ink just not the Bombay brand. I bought a 2 1/2 oz bottle og higgins Permanent ink. I’ll try it out see what happens I have an extra pair of welding goggles so if it fails I will have my back up pair

the India Ink that I used dried fine but I was not totally happy with the end result. I ran water on the goggles and the ink stayed on. I rubbed my thumb across them and very little rubbed off. But you could see the brush strokes after it dried. But i did test it with rubbing alcohol and it stripped it right off, it did stain the vinyl and made it a darker green. So i dusted it with a light coat of Ultra flat Olive drab (Krylon) I like the OD green color, but the goggles I painted were just test goggles So I went ahead and Plasti-dipped them today. Plasti dip holds very well so far from what I can tell.

What I would like to know from you is, where did you get the silver knobs on the side of the goggles?

John

I got them from an old radio I got at a yaed sale for 10 cents.

XD

What type of brush did you use? I used a sponge brush with two coats of the ink. No marks or brush strokes to be seen.

I used a sponge brush. looks a little wider then the one in your pics

John

i think mine was about 1 in.

Mine i think was 1 1/2 in.

Heres a link to the thread for my goggles

Let me know what you think.
