A Tribute to Dr. Egon Spengler
Egon Spengler can be considered one of the greatest minds of modern science, his achievements would have garnered a Nobel Prize in physics for proving the existence of sentient consciousness beyond our physical realm. Since time immemorial, humanity has experienced interactions with ghosts and spirits, yet never fully understood or believed in their existence. Spengler not only proved the existence of ghosts and spirits, but also explained the phenomena in quantifiable terms understood by modern science. Much like Bhor’s concept of the atom, Planck’s early quantum theory, Schrödinger’s thought experiment of quantum superposition, Einstein, Hawking, and so forth; Spengler revolutionized the field of modern physics to understand spiritual energy in scientific terms.
Spengler was no doubt heavily influenced by his friend and colleague Raymond Stantz. Stantz was not only a fellow scientist but also a long time occult practitioner. With his assistance, Spengler invented the Proton Pack, or portable nuclear accelerator for the purpose of catching spiritual entities. Spengler built a total of 5 such devices: the prototype, 3 more for his fellow ghostbusters, and one final version for himself. As a result of the constant pursuit to improve the design, it can be seen that Egon Spengler’s proton pack is significantly different from the other four, a true outlier amongst all the other proton packs that were originally constructed.
The reconstruction that is presented by this project is meant to replicate Spengler’s proton pack as it existed upon the initial formation of the Ghostbusters in 1984, with the passage of time the proton pack in this particular configuration has become a relic. With that, this project is officially named The Spengler Relic Proton Pack.
Ever since childhood I have greatly admired the character of Dr. Egon Spengler, this project has brought that admiration full circle by constructing an almost precise replica of the prop used on screen in 1984 by my favorite Ghostbuster. It has taken years to track down and gather the correct parts, and many hours of studying screen captures and photos of the actual prop to arrive at what is now presented. This project is also the result of the collaboration of many talented members of the ghostbusters community, without which this project would have never been possible. This replica will continue to be refined and improved as Egon Spengler would have intended, but it has finally reached a state where it is suitable to wear and present.
