Amazing work being done here! Means either time to get my prescription checked again or next time I’ll attempt to look at a better transfer of the movie myself! 😃

As Venkman says “Close…but definitely wrong” I can read it clear as day on there from the screenshots you took. Dunno if that’s because I know what it actually says now or if I couldn’t get it paused that clear frame my frame on the recorded TV version I had on my cable box! 😃 at one point I thought it might’ve said something about absorbing shock i.e. the impact of a blow to the head(maybe as a result of not knowing where the phone lines are!) as opposed to an electrical shock.

EDIT: Does it look to anyone else like it’s a foil or metallic type label similar to the pack stuff?

Not a thing. The copy of the movie I am using is 720p. I don’t know if there is a higher quality version floating around or not. But on mine, all you see are red rectangles. You can tell there is text on the labels, but it is very low contrast against the red label and there is no way to make anything out.

Hi all! Ramcuda was nice enough to send me an orange vest as a birthday present, and I finally got off my lazy duff and took some pics wearing it with the Egon hardhat, for which I still have not made a sticker yet.

```auto
I also got myself a white Tuf-E hardhat, similar to the ones worn by Ray and Egon at various times in the movie. It will need to be painted yellow, of course, just as the movie prop(s) were.
![image](http://sphotos-b.■■.fbcdn.net/hphotos-snc7/379330_354322684681301_1375141203_n.jpg)
To fully appreciate this, you should really go and read Ramcuda's thread...
http://www.gbfans.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=32096
... which is where I got all the info I needed on the various hard hats. As well as...
![image](http://sphotos-b.■■.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/531675_354322714681298_1847244555_n.jpg)
... the JustRite head lantern.
I was fortunate enough to swing a deal whereby I got the white Tuf-E hardhat from eBay and the JustRite lantern from Etsy, for a grand outlay of about $15.
But, it's always true: you get what you pay for.
Or in this case, be wary of any auction/advertisement that only shows an item from one side.
![image](http://sphotos-b.■■.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/24286_354322708014632_486347375_n.jpg)
Because when I opened the box, I discovered that the red plastic battery pack was NOT in mint condition.
![image](http://sphotos-a.■■.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/66121_354322794681290_722922159_n.jpg)
One side of it had been spray-painted by a previous owner. (And initials were scraped into it as well.)
![image](http://sphotos-a.■■.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/69244_354322771347959_752450641_n.jpg)
I know why this was done, of course. I've seen my Dad slap his name all over his own tools and heard him complain too many times about worksites where his own personal tools had wandered off or just been plain stolen.
But it still didn't make me happy that the seller had played me like that. So be careful. Ask for extra photos if you can. Sigh.
I'm gonna try some solvent on it, so I'll let you know how it goes.
```

Thanks to advice from Brock Parker at [AlabamaGB.com](http://AlabamaGB.com), I found a really good yellow slicker and some red/orange gloves at my local Home Depot.

You can see where all this is going…

While I was there at Home Depot, I also found some storage containers on clearance. I always need storage containers, but these caught my imagination due to their coloring.

Gee, what does that remind me of? Hmmmm…

So of course, I bought several.

I had a large roll of black duct tape left over from a past project, so I measured the angle of the stripes on the [Mattel](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/toys/mattel) [Ghost Trap](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/equipment/ghost-trap) (45 degrees) and did a quick-and-fun mod.

And now I have a cool set of containers for storing/stacking/transporting my Ghostbusters gear.

Stay tuned for more progress on my hardhat-with-lantern, and thanks again to Ramcuda and Brock for the great info!

Good news, the spray-paint came right off with some Goof Off!

By the way, I already had the four D-cell batteries that this requires; they were included with the 2-for-$2 flashlights from Wal-Mart which I cannibalized for reflectors for my [cyclotron](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/equipment/proton-pack/cyclotron).

I took the liner out of the white Tuf-E hard hat and cleaned the hardhat itself.

Hit it with some yellow Krylon which I matched as best I could to my yellow Egon-style hardhat…

Did the interior first…

And then the top surface just as the sun was going down…

It will need another coat, though.

I’ve also taken apart the wiring in the battery pack…

… in preparation for drilling some holes in the hardhat and running the wires through it.

Still haven’t modified the lamp yet either.

Okay, so this Krylon flakes off of the hardhat at the slightest touch. There’s no way I’m going to be able to keep it solid yellow, so I might as well embrace the exposed white material look as seen on Aykroyd’s hardhat in the film.

So I took some sandpaper to it in very random movements in the approximate locations of the paint chips seen on the real prop.

Drilled a hole in the front:

And threaded in the detached wires of the headlamp.

Hooked them back up to the battery pack and did a quick test to see if I had everything reconnected correctly.

Still need to modify the headlamp’s bracket so I can permanently attach it to the hardhat, and then I’ll probably hot-glue the wires to the inside curve of the hardhat.

I thought about just duct-taping them in, but I don’t want the adhesive of the tape yanking my hair out when I remove the hardhat.

Also, I need some hints on finding or making this fun little mason-jar-on-a-belt-clip device Ray has in the movie…

</div>

Had some time to work on my hardhat. After stripping the first paint job I re-sprayed it, then waited about a week before handling it.

Modified the bracket of the JustRite headlamp.

Drilled the holes in the hardhat… just like the movie prop makers, I accidentally got one hole in the wrong place, but mine is mostly hidden under the bracket.

I added some acorn nuts (which sounds redundant, no?) to the inside to keep things from being lethal if I bump into a door facing.

I hotglued the cord to the inside of the hardhat…

And reattached the liner.

Then it was just a matter of reconnecting the wires to the battery pack, and it was done!

Well, since this thread is titled Egon’s hardhat, [it’s about time](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/real-ghostbusters/its-about-time) I got some more work done on that one, huh?

I have been making templates of various widths to see which one worked best. They’re just printed onto regular paper and held in place with a rolled-up piece of Scotch tape.

This one is 2 and 7/16" wide, I think it looks just about right.

The revised graphic that I made looks like this:

The ‘type’ number is my birthday, listed as MM-YYYY-D. The ‘contract’ number is the date that GB2 was released. And the ‘serial’ no. is how much GB2 grossed, according to the imdb.

Now I just need to get one printed onto foil somehow. Any suggestions?

I’m still planning the photo shoot-- so far I’ve only rounded up two severed heads, drat-- so in the meanwhile I’m gathering props.

One of the only props they’re carrying that is specifically mentioned in the dialogue is Ray’s “old transit map”.

Here’s some progress I’ve made while browsing online this morning…

1858

1904

1906 (iirc)

1958 (iirc)

I’ll probably take these files and have something printed up large and then fold it down. Just an idea in the back of my head right now, I have lots of other irons in the fire at the moment.

I got a sheet of self-adhesive silver labels in the mail, it was a free sample from [RippedSheets.com](http://RippedSheets.com)

I printed out my info onto it and cut one to size. I tried trimming it with a straight-edge and an X-acto knife, but truthfully had better results with a pair of scissors.

It’s hard to get a good photograph of it because the silver is super-reflective. At top you see the paper test version.

Then I cleaned the entire hardhat with rubbing alcohol and peeled off the paper backing of the label and affixed it.

I need to hit it with a clear-coat or add a piece of packing tape over the top of it, because I tested a corner of one of the others and if it gets wet, the ink will run.

I may go back and also do the 1958 map, but I pieced together a larger version of the 1858 map, so I went and had one printed at Office Depot as large as they could do it.

It cost about $14 after tax. It would almost be a shame to fold it up like a real map, but here’s a happy accident…

The gal didn’t realize she had photo paper in the printer on the first try, so I’ve also got this neat glossy version, at no charge.

```auto
I trimmed off the excess white at the edges and came up with a decent way of folding it. It preserves the vertical folds, which were very visible on the original image, but I ignored the real (and barely visible) horizontal folds and only gave it two side-to-side folds, mainly due to its slightly smaller-than-life size.
The jar looks glass, but the lid looks like red plastic, at least in this other closer view elsewhere in the film.
that jar looks to have flat sides … like a mason/caning jar
after looking at the movie as the slim pours in to it … the slime stacks up and sinks … think like pouring syrup on pancakes.. and the side of the jar facing dan there is some distortion in the glass its self and not as clear threw as [the other sides](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/publications/comics/ghostbusters-the-other-side) of the jar.. so i think the BALL wording is facing him …
Haha… the one time in my life I’ve ever had my hand/wrist immobilized in a cast, I had a dream that my hand was stuck inside a Ball jar and I was smacking it against a table to try to shatter it. I woke up beating the cast against my night stand.
The dream was very specific about it being a Ball jar, probably due to my first wife having been from Muncie, Indiana. But when I shared this story with someone via email, I accidentally typed Bell Jar, and the recipient started going off on this tangent about how Sylvia Plath was her favorite author. I had to respond and clarify that we were having a total misunderstanding due to that one typo.
Anyway, back to the prop… wouldn’t it be sort of risky having a glass jar hanging off one’s belt in the general vicinity of the gluteus maximi?
I’m thinking I may just remove the label from a plastic jar of peanut butter or something.
