GBFans Shop - Fiberglass Shells & Aluminum Motherboards

Vinny are you supplying these?

They’re coming from my mold but being cast professionally by a fiberglass specialty shop.

Could you share the booster angle/length for this shell, please? Getting all my parts in order prior to arrival. It looks like a real beauty, can’t wait to get to building on it!

I’ve posted it in a few threads, though I can’t think of where off the top of my head. Shoot me a pm and remind me to check tonight

Yes some specs on that woulf be good also. Going to attempt to build my own… I will likely be back in 6 months for another shell… lmao

In talking with a friend on facebook earlier I’ve been informed that some folks are having an issue with the shells splintering at the spots where they’re being drilled. I think I’ve mentioned this before but you REALLY should invest in these. The bit on the left at a lower speed will give you the best results, especially on your N-Filter holes.

They’re available at Harbor Freight Tools, if you don’t have one close by here’s a link to order online - http://www.harborfreight.com/3-piece-titanium-nitride-coated-high-speed-steel-step-drills-91616.html

Vinny thats what I used exactly the same product.

I used a brand new set of drill bits from Canadian Tire. They’re carbide I believe. It was only $15 for the set and I’ve had no problems with my shell so far and I’m in no way an expert with a drill. Not sure if its the bits or luck but I’ve had it easier than others I’ve seen on here.

Its better to use auger bits on gel coated fiber glass…this is why VinC gave you links for some cheaper ones. Fiberglass splinters and the gel coat can flake…if this happens to you its because you are using regular drill bits…you have been warned

I think there is a reason why the step bits work so well. You start with a small hole and gradually get bigger. That leaves less likelihood for chipping out a big part of the gelcoat vs going in with a large drill bit to start. You can achieve the same thing with regular drill bits. Just start out with a small drill and gradually work your way up to the correct size.

Never jump right in there with a full sized drill bit. You need that pilot hole.
