First post here. The amount of knowledge and help available from this site is incredible!.
I’ll cut to the chase, here’s the current state…
I followed the gilpin way of working. Used some oven paper to draft stuff out before transferring it to the foamcore. I usually start projects then get bored and move on incredibly quickly so I waited until I’d done a bit before I posted this, I wanted to be certain I’d finish it!.

Notice how I ballsed up some of the angles? I can’t even be trusted with a protractor! (I may redo the space when my foamcore-fu has improved.)

Still a long ways to go but it’s really taking shape now. Hoping to have it done by Christmas! (famous last words?..)
As you can see, most of the shell is finished. I decided to go with foamcore for the fins on the gearbox and power cell. I used 3mm foamcore for this (thinner than the main body foamcore)
The cake pan is just there for reference. (I’ve got a cyclo coming from JT…when he digs himself out of the snow )
I’m planning on going with a solid wood block for the gunmount (and also a plank running from the mobo, through the EDA to the top of the ion arm for support)
Resin bits are on their way from MMM and nick-a-tron. There’s light at the end of the tunnel!.
Wasn’t gonna post an update until I’d gotten more done BUT my orders arrived from MMM and JT today. I did a real quick mock up of almost everything I have so far and it looks ACE so I had to post this…
(before any accuracy nuts have a heart-attack just bear in mind it’s only a mockup…and yes I know that’s the booster plug there above the clippard) It’s funny because I remember opening the kennerproton pack the Christmas after Ghostbusters II came out and being overcome with excitement. I’ve just had almost the exact same feeling when I took this photo just now.
So, here’s my other stuff. New Nomex, Side-zip “pilot boots” (not accurate but they were new, local and they’ll do the job), LC-2 ALICE frame and pistol belt with MMM fobs and gloves. Costume parties will never be the same again…
The Stiff: Cheers. When I look at the very first picture I posted and compare it to the most recent the difference is ridiculous. But you wouldn’t believe how cool I thought it looked when I took that very first picture!
OK Right now I’m at the filling/sanding/sealing part. Ever wondered why no one posts an update saying ‘woo! I’m doing the filling/sanding!’? Because it’s boring as all hell. But, necessary.
I had planned on doing a proper paint job with regular primer/paint but I found some ‘stryrofoam’ paint at a local hobby shop that I thought would do the job. It’s called “Magic Colour F” and the guy at the shop told me it was a matt finish.
Today, I thought I’d test it out on the power cell and crank knob to see how it came out with no primer. It’s GORGEOUS. More of a satin finish than matt and far better than I expected so I’m sticking with it for the rest of the pack.
I also forgot to mention that I did actually get round to remaking the spacer with the proper angles (and also the 15th cosmetic plate section not seen here) looks a lot better…
I took this the other day after I’d bought the MDF for the motherboard (it’s 6mm thick. I know the original mobos were 3mm aluminium, but I really didn’t trust 3mm MDF so 6mm it was!) This was obviously before I cut the mdf…
Just took this one today. Mobo has been cut (still needs the edges cleaning up) but you get a good idea of how the paint looks on the powercell and gear box.
Stocked up on some more paint today and also bought some humbrol enamel tins of Chrome Silver, Brass and Grey for the Weathering, Ion Arm and SMC parts respectively.
I’ll probably go with a kit for the wans. Most likely MMM’s…But that’ll have to wait til after Christmas.
I also did some painting on the SMC elbows. I forget where I saw this tip but a few people have done it…

As you can see, I also painted up the resin MMM Clippard and put the sticker on. Can you believe that Humbrol enamel metallic paint takes 10 days to dry? TEN DAYS! :o
