Yeah. I got nothing to argue with this one :nicejobyoudid:
If it is more of a personal preference - then so be it.. but I think coming down on someone IF they are going for accurate (on something that is closer than a Honda Civic is) came as such a new one to me that it just seemed ludicrous.
These parts aren’t exactly easy to get in the first place. Often times some of the people looking for them, search for many months on end to find them, just as they probably did on their 59 cars that are even rarer. So yeah I can understand why they would have issue with someone taking a period accurate part, and putting it on a ford station wagon. There’s plenty of things that are readily available that look “close enough” to put on a "close enough’ car. Like me, I have a 79 MM Caddy.. and I won’t have the first “screen accurate” piece on my roof rack, close enough parts.. for a close enough car. I think thats it in a nutshell.. the rarity of these parts.
I never said I’d be getting the accurate parts. I said as accurate “as possible” as in, as good as we can get it. We have time and money constraints. Those WW2 bomber tanks? We’ll probably use PVC. Lightbars? LED low profile bars. It just comes down to practicality for us.
What I meant, was that we weren’t going to have yet another wagon that someone just strapped on a bunch of ■■■■ and called it an ecto. We’ll have the ladder, lights, sniffer, radar etc etc in the right scale for our car, made as affordably as we can.
for what its worth, those of us saying what we did about the parts.. knew the whole time what you meant.. because its logical. You can be accurate without having the first actual piece of equipment, its all about getting creative!
You had a few people thinking you were going out and trying to source the actual correct parts, I knew you meant you were going to replicate it as best you could with what was available. I paid 600.00 for my car.. no way am I buying a part that costs 3x what I paid for the car lol.
The light bars and paint are going to be the most expensive things on my car. I paid 200.00 for my pair of light bars including shipping.
Only 1 person felt that you may actually get ‘original parts’. My query was has it really come down that a user pre-warning they would get ■■■■■■ at someone because they might get/did get original parts, but not for the original car - all out of being jealous because they missed out on the parts for their 59MM? Seriously???
We’ve actually gotten rid of the ■■■■■■ rusty mercury, and instead have gone with a 1986 Pontiac 6000 wagon. It’s in MUCH nicer condition, and we don’t have to do any repair or clean up, just slap the decals on, do the roof, and wire the lights and sirens. That’s it.
I managed to meet fortyseven and the crew and see their ectomobile at the Calgary Comic and Entertainment expo today. Great work on the car and costumes guys. Really nice meeting you all. I can’t wait to see what you do next year!
A few pics from the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo. The car was far from finished, it was “good enough” for the con, and apparently more than good enough for the thousands of people that came and got photos with us and the car.

Walkaround of the car at the con:
Yes the car isn’t complete. I’m planning on redoing the roof box and adding all the bits that are missing. We had a deadline and worked lots and slept little on the week leading up to the con. The 3.5 hour drive to Calgary from Edmonton was memorable, and it all gave us a buzz to hear so many good comments on the car from people, and so so so many photos.
