We’re venturing out today for new chemicals to try out.

Ok so we managed to get a new non toxic chemical to try with the slime,it’s works just as good as the other chemical we used,so we are now ready to post the ingredients and the recipe for the slime.

Ingredients:

Jello mix- Depends on the color you want,we went with green obviously.

powdered glitter- This is what makes the swirls in the slime itself,we get it at a local costume shop.

Acetone or Isopropryl Alcohol- This is where it gets nasty,Acetone will eat through plastic or rubber,so if you plan on putting the slime in either then you need to use the Isopropryl Alcohol instead of the Acetone.

Everyone getting this so far?

Now onto the actual recipe.

Recipe:

Take whatever container you are putting it in,we use glass pickle jars,and wash the container very well and let it dry.

Then taking a small measuring cup,put in 4 cups of water.

Then open the Jello packet and pour in a 1/4 of the envelope.

Take the powdered glitter and shake in a small dab of glitter.

Finally,put one cup of Acetone or Isopropryl Alcohol into the jar,seal the jar with a lid and shake up,the ingredients will swirl and mix and should give you the results of our slime.

    Potential Health Effects


    Inhalation:

    Inhalation of vapors irritates the respiratory tract. May cause coughing, dizziness, dullness, and headache. Higher concentrations can produce central nervous system depression, narcosis, and unconsciousness.

    Ingestion:

    Swallowing small amounts is not likely to produce harmful effects. Ingestion of larger amounts may produce abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting. Aspiration into lungs can produce severe lung damage and is a medical emergency. Other symptoms are expected to parallel inhalation.

    Skin Contact:

    Irritating due to defatting action on skin. Causes redness, pain, drying and cracking of the skin.

    Eye Contact:

    Vapors are irritating to the eyes. Splashes may cause severe irritation, with stinging, tearing, redness and pain.

    Chronic Exposure:

    Prolonged or repeated skin contact may produce severe irritation or dermatitis.

    Aggravation of Pre-existing Conditions:

    Use of alcoholic beverages enhances toxic effects. Exposure may increase the toxic potential of chlorinated hydrocarbons, such as chloroform, trichloroethane.

  2. First Aid Measures

    Inhalation:

    Remove to fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Get medical attention.

    Ingestion:

    Aspiration hazard. If swallowed, vomiting may occur spontaneously, but DO NOT INDUCE. If vomiting occurs, keep head below hips to prevent aspiration into lungs. Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Call a physician immediately.

    Skin Contact:

    Immediately flush skin with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Remove contaminated clothing and shoes. Get medical attention. Wash clothing before reuse. Thoroughly clean shoes before reuse.

    Eye Contact:

    Immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes, lifting upper and lower eyelids occasionally. Get medical attention.

  4. Accidental Release Measures

    Ventilate area of leak or spill. Remove all sources of ignition. Wear appropriate personal protective equipment as specified in Section 8. Isolate hazard area. Keep unnecessary and unprotected personnel from entering. Contain and recover liquid when possible. Use non-sparking tools and equipment. Collect liquid in an appropriate container or absorb with an inert material (e. g., vermiculite, dry sand, earth), and place in a chemical waste container.   5. Handling and Storage

    Protect against physical damage. Store in a cool, dry well-ventilated location, away from any area where the fire hazard may be acute. Outside or detached storage is preferred. Separate from incompatibles. Containers should be bonded and grounded for transfers to avoid static sparks. Storage and use areas should be No Smoking areas. Use non-sparking type tools and equipment, including explosion proof ventilation. Containers of this material may be hazardous when empty since they retain product residues (vapors, liquid); observe all warnings and precautions listed for the product.

The formula was posted as being non toxic, so yes, it was needed.

Let’s just put it this way…

Don’t use Acetone.

Isopropyl Alcohol is a better choice for a number of reasons.

It’s cheaper, less dangerous to the human body, and won’t damage as many materials.

I’m sure the majority of people who decide to get involved with chemicals are wise enough recognize a

potentially dangerous substance.

Anybody who catches that first wiff of those chemicals, as they first open the containers, will get the hint, quick.

We know you guys are smart.

Guys, this is slime we’re talking about. Take it easy. Acetone is dangerous, we get it. Just say it’s way too toxic for this purpose and move on.

Oh, what % alcohol do you use and how much of it per jar?

We also stated much further up that it was toxic and not to be used on the human body,so chill dude.

Dan,it was 91%,you can get it at Wal Mart.

The original formula i was told was 1 part acetone, 2 parts water.

I pushed it to more than just 2 parts water and it looks just as good.

Same goes for the Isoprople. In that mixture i pushed beyond a 1 to 4 combination.

Just keep in mind the amount of jello mix and glitter.

It’s the glitter that gives the contrast and accents the ripples.

Just reiterate what I have said before,THIS SLIME IS FOR DISPLAY USE ONLY,DO NOT USE ON YOUR COSTUME OR BODY.

The best and safest way to go about this is using the Isopropryl Alcohol,it gives the exact same effect that the acetone does.

What color jello did you guys end up using for the Black Slime?

My guess would be Black Cherry, but I figured I’d go to the source so I can whip up all 3 colors in one fell swoop :slight_smile:

Yeah, we used black cherry. but we didn’t have any black glitter to use, so used the green.

I still plan on making a ton of different combinations with jellos and glitters and see what comes out.

The black cherry gave a deep red color.

Pardon my bump (and pardon my fail if this has been suggested and/or tried with less-than-acceptable results elsewhere on the forum) but have you considered vodka instead of isopropyl alcohol? And I know I’ve seen food-safe pearlescent powder in the cake decorating section at Michael’s…

One might still not want to eat such a slime, but at least it would be made entirely of things that are more or less safe to put in your mouth. :slight_smile:

I just used this recipe today, but mine did not come out like yours did :frowning:

i used a ratio of 1part 50% alc to 3 parts water. about 2 tbsp of glitter and half the packet of jello mix…what happened?
