What kind of real-life equipment are the mini toggles and push on/off switches found on the most? I’m working on a budget of $0 for my pack, gun, and trap, and I’ve been able to pick up several components for free just by knowing what kind of junk to look out for and strip for parts. I know Radio Shack sells these switches, but I’m not going to plunk down $15 for them if there’s a way to get them for free. (For those of you who’ve never tried it, dumpster diving is a really fun hobby.) Any pointers?
If their is a dumpster behind a hardware store becarfull because if dive right in your ass may land on a broken it happend to me it could happen to you
HELL YES!!! :o There used to be a manufacturer of Ski clothing in town here and they’d throw out expensive jackets and such for having minor flaws. Aww, those were the days… (the days before enclosed dumpsters)
Anyway, I’m not sure what parts would have the correct switches, but $15 sounds like way too much. At an electronics store, they should be around a dollar a piece… Now that I think about it, check out some old house hold appliances. My mom used to have an old mixer that had a toggle switch on it. Hmmm, maybe an old hair dryer or something like that.
Dont count on paying $0 on a proton pack. A-least not the electronics. but for matereals to make the shell you could alwase stealuhh… BORROW a bunch of those huge home retailer signs.
Actually, it would be near $15. According to radioshack.com, one toggle switch (of the right size/style) costs 3.79, and you’d need three for the gun. The push-buttons are cheaper, because $3.29 gets you four of them. Thats still puts you around $14.66.
My pack won’t have any electronics, and I’m not going to steal anything. My pack is going to be made from wood, which I’ve already got plenty of. I’ve got some really old burned-out radio tubes that look virtually identical to the Clippard valves, wire instead of pneumatic tubing, ergonomic bike grips for the gun grips…I know this sounds like a patchwork of garbage to you people, but it’s looking pretty good so far! I’m concentrating on the wand first before I take on the rest of the pack. The wand won’t be screen accurate in terms of EXACT measurements or parts, but it’ll be pretty darn close. As soon as the wand’s done I’m going to post some pics. Stay tuned!
Oh ya, I don’t doubt it would cost that much at Radioshack… We have an electronics store here that has a lot of components that can be bought individually. And the correct toggle switches are/were around a dollar a piece when I built my last pack. The problem with the store is their stock fluctuates and just because they have something today, doesn’t mean they’ll have it next week… Anyway, all I meant was I would look around at a few different places before I spent that much on those switches, it still sounds like they want too much to me…
