I have tweeted [Dan Aykroyd](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/people/dan-aykroyd) with my idea. The rest is up to YOU. :angryvigo:

In all seriousness though, honestly, I have no idea - that’s why I figured I’d put it out around here, maybe if the idea caught on it’d work its way up the ladder or something.

I mean they may already have everything locked down and ready to go with GBIII (doubt it), in which case it’s not even worth talking about a TV series, but hey, you never know

If there is a ladder, it’s on the wrong building. Not sure who you though would be here, but we are just fans of a 30 year old movie. Sony didn’t do anything about a petition to restore Ecto. I honestly don’t think they would listen. Maybe with 20 million people but last I checked its a small community.

SCREAM, From Dusk Till Dawn, Rosemary’s Baby, Fargo, Clue, Mildred Pierce, El Mariachi… For some reason turning movies into TV shows is big right now.

I’m not saying it couldn’t work. Who wouldn’t want 10+ hours of new Ghostbusters? I like the flexibility TV might give it as well, with the possibilities for recurring villains, branching story lines, possible shifting viewpoints and settings as characters move from one city franchise to another.

But it will need the right person in the right place with the right script. If you don’t have that, ya don’t have a show, no matter how much demand is out there for it.

Right - that’s totally true.

See, it’s not as asinine a concept as you might think! 🙂

No asinine at all. We had a thread all about turning it into a tv show already. Not a new concept. It would be cool, but I think if it were to happen, GB 3 would have to come out first and make a boat load of money. Then maybe.

But wait, Scream is a TV show?

Not neccessarily. They made a “Terminator” TV show, and all that needed was a recognizable name and all of the awesomeness that is Josh Freidman’s epic writing abilities. That was one of the best sci-fi TV shows on television, while it lasted.

Really that’s what’s missing. We don’t need more fans clamouring for something, anything, to feed their nostalgia. We need a Josh Friedman with a kickass script, a five season arc, and the skills to see it through.

…Personally I can think of a few writers I’d love to see take a stab at adapting Ghostbusters to a TV show, if we had the option… S. Micheal Strazinski tops the list for obvious reasons, Dan Harmon’s a human wreaking ball but he would BRING the 'gut busting hilarity", if Joss Whedon were still working in TV I’d love to see what he’d do with the concept, Alex Hirche is the second coming of Brad Bird if he wanted to be, Kevin Smith would bring a working class cool that’d be pretty awesome, though he’s never done TV before (the Clerks animated series notwithstanding)…

But whoever it is is probably unknown right now, sitting somewhere with a pocket full of notes that may or may not ever see the light of day. Alas. The world is not fair.

</div>

I don’t even know if there needs to be a massive 5 season long arc - I’d be more interested in one season (at least to start) of just solid storytelling first - More Band of Brothers/True Detective than Lost

I honestly don’t even know who I’d want to take on that job - Not Kevin Smith, as it’d be way too talky and take place exclusively in New Jersey, Harmon would be good…but I’d be curious to see how he does with something that’s not chock full of references first (I haven’t seen Rick and Morty, so I don’t know if that is any less referency than Community). Whedon…eh…I mean if he really wanted to put the effort in, sure, but if Agents of Shield is any indication of his TV abilities these days, I’ll pass.

I might even think about going for a team from the BBC - between Orphan Black, Broadchurch, etc, the UK seems to have the market cornered on fantastic tv.

I mean heck - team up Simon Pegg and [Jason Reitman](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/people/jason-reitman), and you’d probably have something special on your hands there!

Simon Pegg is way too big of a star for TV, especially the BBC which is famously stingy with its salaries. Besides, Edgar Wright is the brains behind the Cornetto Trilogy. He’s currently working on Ant Man for Marvel. He’s not going to do tv either.

Also, Its Joss’s brother Jed Whedon and his wife who are running Agents of Shield. Joss has been busy for the last two years working on Avengers 2 and though he no doubt will take his brothers calls, he wasn’t anything more then an advisor.

I’m not sure id support going the miniseries route. Usually you do that if you have a very limited, self contained story you want to tell, and if that’s what you’ve got, either you are an edgy cable drama or a feature film. I can’t see them thinking so small with a recognizable brand.

oh no i’m not saying mini series, I’m just saying at least to begin with , just keep to a single season story arc, instead of starting out from the beginning with a grand 5 year plan or whatever - that way you don’t end up like Carnivale

You don’t want to wind up like “Heroes” or “Desperate Housewives” either, where the first season is great… And then everybody is out of ideas. And Carnivale wouldn’t have saved itself even if it had gotten the nine seasons it wanted. It was hours and hours of moody foreshadowing that never actually started up the plot.

Comedy’s rarely have overarching plots anyway, except as an excuse for more jokes. A lot would depend on weither the writer decides to go for more comedy or more dramatic story-driven tone. Either way, the fact that it’s Ghostbusters is going to work against you: SOMEONE will be upset you didn’t go the other way.

You can please some people some of the time ,but you can’t please all of the people all of the time.

Some will be upset something isn’t accurate, with how the plot is going, with the acting ,the writing, or just upset that it exists.

True, trying to please everyone is a quick way to make sure you please nobody, but when it’s called “Ghostbusters” people are going to have expectations. A famous franchise can be a blessing and a curse. I’m convinced one of the things that got “terminator: the Sarah Conner Chronicles” greenlit was that “Terminator” and “Sarah Conner” were in the name. That was also what got them cancelled. People tuned in thinking they were going to see Sarah Conner fighting robots with a shotgun. Instead they got cerebral, philosophical and mystery driven drama mostly about how John Conner becomes a leader. It was great, some of the best scifi around, but it was not what it was advertised.

Being in the ‘business’. Let me tell you… PLEASE realize how much work has to go into a film.

I am an Actor/Writer/Producer.

A GREAT example is Disney.

Lilo and Stitch for example was 10-12 years in Development before getting greenlit. into Pre-Production.

Pre-Production is generally seeking the talent, who’s doing it, etc.

You need to realize, specially with something so Iconic as Ghostbusters, Sony won’t mess this up, nor do they wanto.

We call the stage this is in; ‘In Development’… This means that they are working on story, ideas, revising etc.

EVEN if they do have a script, that doesn’t mean its even close to Pre-Production.

MOST big name films go to about 10-12 writers, most writers don’t even get credit.

Personally, I also don’t agree with what everyone is saying. Please no Web-Shows, please no TV series.

These are okay as… Sub Divisions from the actual film. But not the real film/franchise.

Giving how some things have been treated in film I’m surprised Sony cares this much, then again, we’ve seen what happens when a beloved franchise isn’t handled with great care.

When it comes to studios, handling a franchise with TOO MUCH care can be even worse then too little. Look at the later seasons of RGB and ghost-of-what-it-could-have-been GBII for proof of what can happen when suits with bad ideas are calling the shots.

I actually wouldn’t mind the Mini-Series approach though.

They are designed as… Long Movies.

And they’re usually shown Night-Night.
