The JST socket surround can pull away from the board when disconnecting the plug, is usually easy enough to slip back over the pins. If a pin has come off the board it might be possible to re-solder it.
Just in case I didn’t explain it very well, I meant the probes should touch the exposed pins in the connector, not the board
