Ok. Got mine and forgive the placement for it (and the mess) at the moment but its sitting in front of the Spengler pack in my closet, (I really need more space and its the only place for both of them where I’m not tripping over them. First impressions is…its more plastic looking then id like but not a deal breaker. I haven’t powered it on yet, i cant find the pack of D Cell batteries i thought i had, but ill wait until after i apply the MoobySign Sticker pack i got for it.
The hose is better, but not by much. I definitely have to get a Tools and Talent Hose for it. It also needs a proper stand. The Amazon Guitar stand i have for it doesn’t do it no justice and has issues with where the hose connects to the pack. The wand connects no problem but wobbles on the v hook more then i would like…and the stickers for it i diden’t even bother attempting to put on the pack because they are so cheep and thin, i feel it be insulting the pack to put them on it. They are that bad. Hasbro is skimping out on the cheepest part of the pack and it shows.
The whole thing feels lighter too…which makes sense i diden’t put in batteries into it yet, I havent installed an ALICE frame to it and it doesn’t have the rumble motor the Spengler pack has.
Overall this does feel like a watered down version of the Spengler Pack, but because thats what it is. Your not getting the extra perks like the stand and the slime or the figures. Your not getting the extra detail and weathering of a pack thats meant to look like its been used and sitting in a barn somewhere for 35 years and its meant to look brand new like it was just built in 1984 without years worth of modifications later on. So in that aspect it should feel like a basic model 1.0 from 1984. So thats a good thing.
They did cheep out not including the stand. I can deal without the rumble pack, the mini puffs or slime dripping off it, but the lack of the stand to me is just criminal and the biggest let down, even though i knew we werent going to get one.
Once i find batteries and install the higher end stickers when those arrive within a week or two ill do an update, but overall im glad i own it, but owning the spengler pack, in comparison im not blown away by it. This this screams modifications and upgrades and i plan on doing them over time.
My recommendations…find a decent stand somewhere online (I think you can 3D Print the stand that comes with the Spengler pack but i dont own a 3D Printer) buy the higher end sticker pack, upgrade the hose and order an Alice frame and clamps for it.
Its a good starting point, but i felt even with paying more 3rd party from Big Bad ToyStore when they had the spengler packs on sale, i got more value for my money but i still recommend getting it for any Ghostbusters Fan.
Just make sure you have a hasbro Wand and plan on spending more later on to upgrade it!
Mine arrived this afternoon, It will stay in the box until I figure out what upgrades I want to do

i have one. It sits uneven because the arm grips it right where the hose connects to the pack.
Received mine yesterday, as expected from the tracking.
Pretty happy with it! Looks lovely and clean, fresh off the bench and ready to go. Stickers are a bit cheap-looking but they do the job. Might upgrade at some point. 84 wand attaches perfectly - although it looks a bit odd that the wand has some light weathering but the pack doesn’t have any at all. I suppose the argument is the wand gets handled all the time (matron!) but the pack largely doesn’t, aside from taking on and off.
If you are feeling adventurous, most of the weathering on the wand comes off easily with alcohol. Just be careful not to go over painted areas that you DON’T want to remove.
Modifications are like potato chips; it’s hard to stop once you get started!
Have to stay in the packs lane . . Keep it under a small fortune. If you change and spend to much, you’d be better off with macks factory. Change just the worst eyesores, or easy and cheap parts. I think I’ll do frame, labels and elbows, which ghostlab42 has 4mm elbows on eBay that look really good

It objectively looks worse… I have no idea why adam would put one on his I thought he was all about screen accuracy. But do you mean to say it’s easier to use with this one?
I much prefer the colour of the plastic on the 84 pack compared to the very dark grey speckled colour of the AL one.
I’ve completed what is probably my only mod to the 84 pack, and that’s to add an Alice frame. All my other mods will continue to be done to the AL pack.
Heres my “Issue” if you can even call it that, with the vast majority of publicly available proton packs! ALL OF THEM ARE PLASTIC…which makes sense, as its a cheep and cost efficient material. The Sprit Halloween ones, the hasbro ones, the other companies that make them that i forget their name at the moment (i think some other companies just re sell the spirit ones under a different lable)… ALL OF THEM ARE PLASTIC so all of them have a plastic looking sheen to them which is fine.
The real packs were made out of Metal and Fiberglass right? The in world universe implies they are heavy metallic devices. I would guess Aluminum or Steel (leaning more towards Aluminum) but the props are part metal and part fiberglass, so for years, fans would have to make them out of the same stuff the prop makers made them out of, and those cost alot more.
But the recent movies like Afterlife and frozen empire have even re used Hasbro and Spirit Halloween items IN THE ACTUAL MOVIE as they are that good. Phoebe’s pack in some shots in Frozen Empire is the haslab pack modified if i remember correctly. The traps in the ground in Afterlife are modified Spirit Halloween traps. THATS HOW GOOD THESE PLASTIC PARTS ARE when the movies themselves use them IN THE ACTUAL MOVIE.
Like i find that beautiful. Think about it, 26 years ago, you wanted a proton pack, you better know professional grade welding or fiberglass casting just to make it yourself, OR have a ton of money to buy one custom made by someone who knew how to do this stuff.
Today we got stuff thats so good, a fresh coat of paint, swap out a few parts, maybe some electrical work and you have a device that could pass being on set in the next movie. Hell with Macs factory you can even get metal versions of them (if they are ever in stock again).
THATS INSANE TO ME that today us fans can build and modify proton packs and gear that the actual movies themselves could only dream of 40 years ago. If you have a 3d printer and some spare cash and a ton of time and a bit of skill, YOU CAN MAKE YOUR OWN PACK thats better then something you can buy in a store/online.
Now, on the flip side of that coin, can stuff be done better on the store front side? Sure…but the higher end parts and labor, the more it costs you at checkout. Im sure a company out there could produce in mass thousands of metal proton packs complete with circuit boards, upgraded speakers, lighting, high end parts, etc…but it would cost you 1000 plus for them and i dont know if they would take that risk building thousands if not hundreds of thousands of these, for the vast majority of them to sit unsold in a wear house cause the average broke ghostbusters fan like me cant afford or doesn’t have the space, to buy them.
Id love to have a fully metal pack fully built for me complete with all the works, where it smokes and i can change the lights and colors and have it sync up with the music from a decent set of speakers, but i can add that to my 300 dollar pack later on if i wish.
I just spent 100 dollars on HIGH END STICKERS for the pack, not even a ALICE frame yet for it lol. I cant wait to see how those look.
Its truly amazing we live in an age where we have these packs avalable (well mostly depending on stock) to us. Cause i got to tell you, back in the 90s and 2000s and even 2010s to an extent, you were either building these things on your own if you had the skill set, space, money and talent to do it, or paying someone to do it for you.

Good point. Even as late as 2010 it was still a case of DIY entirely, or buy the prefab parts and assemble yourself, at great cost.
Also a good excuse to post these relics from my vault from that same year. I am somewhat older and indeed somewhat girthier now, but that’s 20s to 40s for you… this was my uniform build for Halloween of that year. I was (and still am) very proud of myself for my junk build (with help from this site’s very own AJ in no small part for some bits and bobs).

For DYI projects, thats very impressive. It just goes to show my point though, these packs, despite some obvious flaws (Im not a fan of the hose, the stickers or even the speakers), simple upgrades can bring these things to life doing things the actual movie packs coulden’t do. Tech is amazing isnt it. Think about this…today…with just a few screws and clip in wires, you can have a fully light up programable proton pack that plays the theme song out of a speaker, have the lights sync up to it, and vent smoke on command!

I got my '84 pack, Metallic labels and V-Hook swap pending.I was able to get this talent cell inside of the snack compartment and with a little manuvering, I was able to close it!
I also completed another Tri-bumper that I may ise with this pack with light weathering.The pack seems lighter than my Spengler pack, is that what others are seeing?
