Hey everyone, it’s been a while since I posted on here. Anyhow, I just got my gbfans sound chip in the mail last week. I was excited to install in this weekend and I was able to get it all wired, mounted and setup the way I want it.

Here is my problem.

I have my lights powered independently of the sound chip so it was not an issue…ok, when I turn it on and leave the volume control in the center at 50% where the detent is it’s fine, but when I crank the volume up my speaker start making a tap tap tap…type of sound. When I lower it back down it is fine. You really can’t here it that well at 50% volume so I was wondering if anyone out there had any advice so I can crank this puppy up…

I am powering the speaker and the sound chip with a 9v battery.

What would you guys suggest for the gbfans chip.

Thanks a ton…hope everyone had a great labor day!

I have a few suggestions. The 9V is great and all, but up the power. Go to 12V, that’s what I’m using. I tried a 9V battery, but it wasn’t enough power for a louder sound, and I too got the same, or similar issues. My lights are powered separately too, so I’m only powering the chip. More battery! Simple solution. Go hit up a radio shack or something, and grab something that can contain 12V or so of power, or whatever the max for the chip is…have at it. But 9V I would not recommend at all.

You probably need a better speaker.

That too. I was going with the cheapest fix first…best way to go. If increasing to 12v doesn’t fix…then you have ■■■■ for a speaker.

I thought that too, but then I tried a speaker from my Kenwood home stereo that I know works and it did the same thing, going to bump up the power tonight!
