My theory: Me and my fellow GB Scientist have rason to believe that the PS3 is made of some kind of Weird mood slime, hardened and molded. Or SONY made an airborn version of the slime that can be inhaled by people near any electronic store. In Short…The PS3 is pure concentrated evil. :twisted: Hey, they’re the Japanese, they have the technology to do it.

It’s all Sony’s fault. Honestly, they created this UNNECCESSARY shortage… You can’t tell me every time a game system is launched, there has to be a shortage, each one worst than the last. If they were a respectable company, they would address the issue that caused the first shortage and fix the problem, so it wouldn’t happen again. Or postpone the launch until they had a sufficient amount to sell. It’s such bulls**t.

I completely agree. I work in a video game store, so I’ve seen this before. Last year we started taking reservations for the Xbox360. About a month (if that) before the release, Microsoft told us that they would’nt be able to supply us with enough systems for our reserves. So we had to piss people off, telling them they wouldn’t get a system at launch.

This time, we waited until a MONTH before the PS3 launch to make SURE that Sony would be able to fulfill our reserves. They said our store could reserve 8 PS3s. EIGHT. As horrible as that is, whatever. Then, around Monday of last week, less than a week before the launch, they told our company that they would be cutting our allottment by a third.

There is no need for this. The PS3 definitely needed to have it’s launch pushed back. According to Sony, the blu-ray drives they are installing in the PS3 are the problem. Apparently they have run out the resources needed to make more. So… now we wait. With no idea when we’ll be getting a next shipment.

(And I played the PS3. It may be technically stronger than the XBOX360, but you’d never know. Just go buy an Xbox if you want a great system.)

My POV is that the first wave of a console that’s rushed to release will always have problems. I just can’t see waiting in line for days and paying inflated prices for a unit that will likely wind up having some defect, when I can wait until it’s actually affordable, available and with the bugs worked out.

Well video games are like an addiction. You have to feed it, and if you find out theres a better drug that will get you even higher, then you will do anything you can to get it.

Well the reason for the shortage was alot of the new technology sony was trying to put into this system. The blu-ray, the large memory, the motion sensors (“Borrowed from Nintendo”). IT was all unnessisary. They also decide to take a page from X-Box and release 2 versions of the PS3 1 with a 20 gig memory and another with a 60 gig. This was another bad move. They should have just stuck to 1 type of PS3. Their biggest mistake of all was the Blu-Ray. It was reported a long while back that SONY’s biggest problem was the blu-ray technology. It staulled production for quite some time. Plus if they woulda left out the blu-ray and kept only the 20 gig memory then the price woulda dropped to like $300-$400 to compete with the prices of the 360. Then, with that price and even better graphics than a 360, they might have been able to compete with the Nintendo Wii, but that’s the problem with Sony, all they think about is Media play. The same thing was wrong with the PSP, people complained that they weren’t releasing enough games for it. That was because SONY was focused on making the UMD movies. Thus the reason the DS beat out the PSP. I think it’s ironic that the PS3 looks like a Coffin, because i think sony has dug their own grave (in the gaming world) with this one.

Well what i heard.. was..

Sony is forcing the Blue ray issue.. trying to compete againt HDDVD which actually isnt a SONY format.. Which DVD is.. Microsoft Came up with HDDVD and Sony aint getting crap outta the deal.. so they came up with BLUE Ray.. its a travesty.. Like technology went so far.. cuz dvd was 1 format.. now they are trying to split the format.. they figure with the 250million ps2 sales.. that in time.. Blue Ray will be in the Market .. unless Microsoft lets them take over… I personally hope Blue Ray crashes and burns.. thats. me..

Take into consideration that it’s cutting edge components in these systems and that alone causes shortages in parts… Also consider that it’s a lose for the game system makers, there is an estimated $300 negative for each PS3 sold! That is a lot of money to recover in game rights when there are limited titles out and it only gets worse with the more units they deliver…

It’s a much better model to limit the lose early get the systems out there and let the public debug them in a limited numbers, and then release new improved systems once the game sales and game numbers start to rise so they can recover the lose in selling the systems…

It’s all business…

And the 360 HDDVD drive release is just around the corner, that alone with the Xmas season forces Sony to release what they have and stop the stockpiling or they might miss the boat…

What ever Sony’s reason, er… I mean, excuse is. I think it’s a bunch of crap!.. Sony obviously doesn’t care about there LOYAL customers. So piss on 'em!
