When it comes to these electronics, I am still a rookie. I got this set the GBfans board from GBfans and Ghostlabs42. I went to bench test it today but first when i connected it ( i am using the talent cell 12v that will be on my pack for power) there was no sound. I tried every which way. Speakers are brand new\> The [cyclotron](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/equipment/proton-pack/cyclotron) light I have 4 7Led mini rings for each window and in original mode it would only light 3 or the 4 rings but put it in [Afterlife](https://www.gbfans.com/shop/ghostbusters-afterlife) mode it does all 4. Then i thought well try ADJ1 and now on 4 individuals led will light on the cyclotron and have turned that thing either way and it will not change. I did not get a volume control with mine so I’m sure that is why there was now sound. I am pulling my hair out trying to figure this out. I looked at the GitHub and it mine as well be in Japanese because I didn’t understand a single thing on it. CAN SOMEONE POINT ME TO SOMEONE WHO CAN HELP. Or maybe a phone number to GBfans to try and figure this out. Thank you

Your 7-LED “mini rings” for the lenses are not compatible with the GBFans board. The GBFans board supports only four very specific configurations:

1. One LED per lens (4 total).

2. 24-LED NeoPixel ring.

3. 32-LED NeoPixel ring.

4. 40-LED NeoPixel ring.

That’s it. No other configurations are supported. To support your setup you would need to write code for that yourself.

Your lack of audio is not because you do not have a volume control. The volume control on the new board is handled on-board by default, but _optionally_ can be handled by an external knob. The default volume control is handled by a potentiometer on the backside of the board (or should be; that’s what the documentation says, but AJ hasn’t posted any official photos of the back of the board that I can find).

My first thought is that either the microSD card is not inserted into the microSD slot, or the microSD card is missing the actual sound effect files. Either of those would cause zero audio to play.

You can also test to make sure the actual amplifier and speakers are working by simply connecting your smartphone’s headphone jack to the pack board’s “Audio IN” jack with an aux cable, and play music on your phone. You should hear that music come out through the pack speakers when the pack board is powered up.

Best of luck.

The board seems to be using a DFPlayer Mini to handle audio playback. I use the same board in most of my projects, so I’ve had to troubleshoot it many times over the years.

It’s hard to tell from the original post whether the problem is with the audio output or the playback itself, but the DFPlayer has an onboard LED which lights up when it’s playing audio:

It’s usually either a red or blue LED, but it’s the only one on the player, and it only lights up while sound is playing:

So if you start up the pack and there’s no sound coming out of the speaker, but the DFPlayer LED lights up, then it’s trying to play the audio. That means there’s probably nothing wrong with the MicroSD card and the problem lies with the audio output, amplifier, volume, etc. But if there’s no light at all, then maybe it’s a MicroSD issue (exactly as Nomake Wan described in their post above).

Sometimes to rule out issues with connections (or my code) I’ll trigger the sound playback manually on the player.

To do this, it’s just a matter of gently touching these two pins together (a flat screwdriver works, as long as it conducts electricity):

This is basically like pressing “Play Next Track” on an MP3 player. Each time you connect the pins you should see the LED light up and hopefully hear sounds coming through the speakers.
