I didn’t mean creative as in the writers, producers and actors not liking him, I mean as in the idiots who decided to change Janine. It seems that a lot of shows did pistols at dawn with whatever execs or boards back then.
You are so right but they made him more thinner and does sound a little like Murray then the replacement sounded like murray the most.
I was sad that the original voice of Peter left. The second voice actor always seemed to speak in an unnatural, exaggerated way.
The second Janine voice grated on me. I can see why some would feel that way about the original voice for her too though. I felt she lost her identity in the later seasons when she was made more motherly rather than sarcastic and punky.
I didn’t think Dave’s Pete sounded that much like Bill. He sounded like that rich kid from Caddy Shack and all other movies where rich kids are major douches. I kept expecting him to add the name Buffy whenever he talked.
I think the fact that Murray did the voice of Garfield in the movies proves that Lorenzo was a good choice to fit the Murray character.
I know it was referenced at one point about the line that Pete had in the show about Bill Murray not looking like him, I wonder if maybe what they took as a complaint was actually Bill making a reference to that episode. Because when I think about it, that’s how it looks to me.
As I understand it yes, Bill Murray did make the comment and it was producer Joe Medjuck who then sought out Dave Coulier of Full House (1987-1995) fame Check this link for how the truth about this story:.http://robpaulsenlive.com/episode-90-dave-coulier-live-ustream
Poor Peter. The little guy’s been a sticking point in RGB from all angles and the end result was horrible, with the Dave Coulier voice, terrible writing, and nasty animation from the latter seasons.
For me, Peter is defined by Lorenzo Music, and by the spunky derpy kid we saw in the shows original form. Was Lorenzo immediately recognizable? You bet! It was one of the reasons I gravitated towards the show to begin with as a pup! Garfield was one of the voices, and somehow that was an awesome little comfort point for me. But I don’t agree with the argument that Lorenzo had no inflection in his voice. Watching Peter much more closely as I go through the episodes now, Lorenzo brought him to life in a way that’s unlike any of his other characters. Peter isn’t always laid back. He’s quick to anger and tantrums, screams a lot, is excitable, sometimes hyper, and his emotions are childlike and extreme. Peter’s gone from fear, to anger, to sorrow, to an impressive tantrum, to sheer elated joy in the span of 5 minutes.
Aside from all that, Peter had a heck of a personality. Sure he could deadpan zingers and be a little smart aleck, but he also had a very unique personality to go along with it. And unlike Garfield or Tummi Gummi, Peter’s voice was a little more higher pitched and he sounded like a younger character. Maurice Lamarche said Peter required a lot more energy on Lorenzo’s part, but that Lorenzo delivered and gave 110% in his performance.
As for Dave Coulier, I never liked him, and he was never a good voice actor. People may say it’s the writing he was given, but I’ve heard the redubbed episodes. Where Lorenzo would emphasise or bring ■■■■■ to the character, Dave was flat and just read his lines or exaggerated them badly, taking a chunk out of what made Peter so special.

I agree. I always hated how they changed Peter into loving Slimer when Dave Coulier took over. Honestly I hated how Slimer became a main character. I agree with JMS that Slimer was better in small doses.
RGB was a massive influence on my childhood, even today at 37 years old watching the show takes me right back to being 7 again
The original voice cast were part of the reasons what enticed me to watch this show on endless repeats over and over
The originally voiced Venkman ( music) was much better than the other guy who seemed dull and emotionless in comparison, after the voice for Peter changed i lost a little bit of interest then lo and behold they changed the voice for Winston and Janinie so for me that was a big No No, add to these insults they then changed the theme which was nothing compared to the original
I bought the Timelife boxset the week it was released but haven’t gotten past season 3 because i know the show went stupid focusing more on Slimer (nothing against the character of Slimer) but i cant sit through a whole story on just Slimer, RGB is about the Real Ghostbusters nothing more, nothing less
Watching this amazing show has defined me into what i am now as a adult, sure at the time i watched other great cartoons mainly He-man, Garfield, Inspector Gadget etc but RGB stood out a billion times better
I had most of the Marvel UK comic books which was a wonderful addition to what we saw on the screen, i had to sell that comic set to purchase the dvd set (oh well) but i have watched and rewatched these dvds dozens of times since i purchased them, a timeless classic cartoon show which sadly changed its format as do all tv shows but for me Peter was always voiced by the same person who did Garfield which never bothered me, Winston was voiced by his original actor as was Janine before her character completely changed! The Real Ghostbusters all the way without the added ‘Slimer’ to the title
Huge RGB fan here and ill also say Mrs Favershams attic is probably my all time favourite episode
I personally hated how they changed Janine’s look in season 3 on. I liked the young Janine from the first 2 seasons. Hated how they made her look older.
Not only did Janine’s look change, her personality changed. She was almost a different person. She went from sassy and pushy when needed, to kind of wimpy and girly. I’ve got to admit the cover-up episode was pretty good, especially considering it was a later episode, but that still doesn’t explain why she changed AGAIN in season seven.
