No words
No…
Just…no.
RIP Ivan. The world lost someone special.
This hurts.
I was kinda expecting it. In his last apparitions he looked frail.
He was able to see his legacy take a step towards the future, he worked closely with his son, he saw his last projected achieving huge success. He passed away peacefully in his sleep without pain.
Both as a filmmaker and human being, this is the end I’d want. Today I’m not sad, just thankful for the enormous gift of Ivan Reitman.
I’m just wondering… I hope they don’t let Aykroyd steer the franchise alone. Ghost Corps needs someone equally passionate but with a clearer vision.
Really ■■■■ start to the week.
Thank you for the slime Ivan
RIP
Sad news. RIP.
The time he and Jason got to work together on Afterlife did indeed “righten the ship” and what a way to spend your final years, recapturing your greatest achievements, working with family and passing the torch.
Puts all the fan whining into perspective. Will watch the work-print this week in his memory.
Talk about going out on a high.
Wasn’t he flying around the world for Afterlife promo too? Didn’t strike me as a man who would shortly leave us. Living life to the end.
Rip Ivan.
Thank you for sharing your wonderful gift with the world.
My condolences to the Reitman family.
Heartbreaking - gutted for Jason

At least he got to work with his dad to make afterlife… and then see it launch together - that must have meant so much
Thank you Ivan - for bringing ghostbusters to life and changing all of our lives
RIP
RIP Ivan. You were truly one of the greats. I don’t think we’ll ever see the likes of your genius again. So grateful that you got to work so closely with Jason on Afterlife.
It’s no exaggeration to say this man has shaped most of our lives. For me, being 5 years old and watching the rental tape over and over again and still begging my dad to let me keep it one more day, to being 41 years old and teaching myself Python so I can make ghostbusters props.
So sad today…
Nothing but all the condolences to his family.
The film he released in 84 has been as influential on my morality and character as my family and peers. My life would have gone a different way were it not for what he made. What a wonderful thing to be able to say about a piece of art and what a testament to his talent - that it was literally life-changing, and I’d imagine the same is true of many of the rest of us.
You were one of the good ones, Ivan Reitman, and the world is a sadder place without you.
R.I.P. Ivan Reitman. Thank you so much for for all of the memories, that your movies have provided us over the years…
October 27, 1946 - February 12, 2022
Gone but not forgotten…
Just heard the news. I feel so incredibly sad…
Only yesterday evening I was watching some Afterlife premiere footage of him and Jason…
It was so touching to see how proud he was of his son…
Luckily he still got to see how he was able to pass the torch in such a beautiful way and how very successful his son’s Ghostbusters turned out to be…
Man, this… this is just heartbreaking…
Rest in peace, mr. Reitman.
:sigh:
I watched the bonus disk this weekend, where his son talked about the practical effects and then ended with how he had the opportunity to direct the film with his father.
Thank goodness the family had this chance to experience this.
My condolences to the Reitman family on their loss. Thank you Ivan, for making this world a better place.
Man I hate to hear this so badly. His work really enriched my nerd life and I’m really grateful for that. Really glad he got to see a truly great Ghostbusters film before it was all said and done and directed by his son to boot.
That’s some really sad news to start the week. Even though I have never meet Ivan, he still was part of my life through his movies and memories I share with people watching his movies.
I’m happy that Jason had the chance to work with his dad extensively and that they build some long lasting memories.
We should make a pin for him like for harold. His films were my childhood meatballs and stripes were always being played in my house and drama club in high school
My deep condolences to Jason and the rest of his family and friends.
Mr. Reitman, our deep thanks for your vital role in creating the masterpiece that brought us all together. This board and the places that preceded it–this community–never would have existed without you.
Can’t believe it. Such a shock to see this when looking at the news today.
So sad to see this.
It was so nice seeing how emotional he would get when talking with Jason at a GB Afterlife interview or on stage. How Ivan would let his emotions be seen. It was so touching to see them together. I wanted to see much more of them together. All the Youtube interviews they did together with various outlets. I had hoped one day there would be an interview with them both talking about changes to directing (storywriting, cinematography, lighting, etc) in the past 40 years. Perhaps some techniques Jason had that were new to Ivan, or some things that Ivan surprised Jason with during his time with GB Afterlife. I don’t know any story in Hollywood where father and son both directed the same franchise 40 years apart. It would have been so nice to see.
None of the Youtube interviews really asked about that. It would have been great to hear.
I was so shocked and so deeply sad to hear about this today. Feeling a bit numb at the moment.
All my prayers are with Jason and their family.
Edit: I found this touching article
Valentine’s Day…Bummer.
When I heard the news last night, I reached out to my fellow Ghostheads in the area and we shared or thoughts on Ivan’s legacy. Hell, The impact he had on my childhood alone was much more encompassing than I realized! About 95% + of his movies were absolutely my sense of humor and my kind of story. Underdogs, misfits, the unlikely heroes.. or even the occasional fish out of water kind of story. He was a like a Brother to our beloved and departed Harold Ramis and We should all be glad we lived in same time and space to enjoy his vision and humor.
Note to Jason: I am glad you pushed to make Afterlife and Your urgency to carry the story forward with your Father there means so much to me and many others.
Thank you.
