Going on another weeks long Halloween partying in the heart if Tokyo. As such, I’ll need a pack that can take a beating. Aside from a smattering of proper parts (Alice, clippard etc) the majority of this pack comes from dollar store parts. I tried my best to evoke the screen used packs but accuracy was never my highest priority. This, like past junk packs will only see me through one week anyway. The thrower is a somewhat damaged Matty that still works. A lot more to do of course. [Bumper](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/equipment/proton-pack/bumper) needs to be added. Lights in [cyclotron](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/equipment/proton-pack/cyclotron) and [power cell](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/equipment/proton-pack/power-cell). Weathering etc. It should just about do the job. I may be lynched here for sharing an unpopular opinion, but screw it: I love junk/budget builds (when done right) and this is a great representation. Great job! :nicejobyoudid: ---

Scratch builds are awesome, because it shows a lot of the creativity, imagination and personality of the builder, not to mention some skills that can be shared and used to help others new to the prop building community, and even veterans alike… I like the build, looks great! ---

I lived in Japan for 4 years… Halloween is definitely a thing there… If anything, depending on where you’re at (Akihabara, Harajuku, among others), it’s almost all year long… ---

I don’t think it matters… a scratch build is a scratch build, whether it be made of junk, scrap parts or anything else… either way, if executed properly, which they normally are, they end up quite excellent! ---

All junk packs are technically scratch builds, but within the community vernacular a scratch build is an accurate pack built entirely from the ground up by a member, and not kitted together. However, there are plenty of awesome junk builds or also called garage builds. This is a nice one, good job. ---

Also I think the majority that do get hated on are presented as things they are not…there are people who will do a garage build but present it as a “90% Accurate” pack, when first off the percentage thing is BS and if it were a thing it’s more like 30% But back on topic, nice junk build. I don’t like the matty thrower as a “serious replica” because it’s just not…but it works SUPER well in applications such as this. 🆒 ---

Thanks for the kind words, everyone 🙂 This is the third junk pack I’ve built for Halloweens in Tokyo. The first two were primarily made of wood and were…not all that well made. This one is made mostly from project boxes, and MDF [motherboard](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/equipment/proton-pack/motherboard), plumbing parts and so on. The ribs on the plastic project boxes are cut and heat formed plastic strip. I sanded them in one direction with coarse grit paper to give the appearance of being milled metal. The [N-filter](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/equipment/proton-pack/n-filter) also has a removable top section so that I could install the WiFi speaker pod. The pack has an ambient generator hum but can also play music if need be. The speaker makes the entire pack vibrate when the hum is playing. I just wanted a bit more animation in the pack aside from the lights. ---

Almost finished. Still trying to keep this an inexpensive, somewhat accurate pack. I hit the [cyclotron](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/equipment/proton-pack/cyclotron), gearboxes, [bumper](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/equipment/proton-pack/bumper) etc with a textured “cast iron” paint. The rest is left bare plastic with semi gloss black over that. Just about to add the blue powercell and cyclotron lights. Then weathering, mounting to the Alice frame.
