LA Fire Station 23, what other films/ tv shows has been seen

Hello all,

I was watching a rerun of CSI New York with my father recently, it was the one about the serial killer who drove a taxi to abduct and kill his victims for those interested. When the CSI’s found his cab, they found a piece of an old fire hose in the cab which lead them to his hideout which was an old firehouse. My dad jokingly said it was the Ghostbusters fire house, thought the outside design was different. I was about to correct him when the camera changed to an inside view and low and behold THE INSIDE WAS FIRESTATION #23 IN LA WHERE THE INTERIOR SHOTS OF THE FIREHOUSE IN BOTH GB FILMS WERE DONE. The green striped walls and the barn style doors helped to clue me in to this fact.

My dad was really amazed that I picked up on this little fact and I told him the whole history of station # 23 in LA being used in many films after GB and GB II . I think after this I should maybe write a book on famous movie locations in the US. LOL

That’s Flashpoint. I downloaded it on Limewire. They even used the roof of the firehouse for an attempted suicide scene. I can’t remember if they got it on after the scene. Probably did.

Impressive list.I was aware of a couple of those but not that many.

A lot of it was simply recognising it. The Engine Bay is always a dead giveaway athough others were more difficult. Some I only disovered after Netsolo and one of Sean Bishop’s friends went and visited the station in person and grabbed some photographs of it… and there’s still areas I haven’t seen yet.

It’s been a pet project to work out the station’s internal layout… I’ve been doing it for the better part of six years.

As the Engine Bay can play a garage or a Firehouse, and the upper two stories also have such a varying range of architecture, it’s become a veteran because it’s so flexible for a filming location. It comprises the majority of the interior shots of that Iglesias music video.

Another thing it’s supposedly appeared a lot in, but I’ve never had the chance to proove it is Hill Street Blues.

Another is a cast interview on the first series DVD set of Third Watch. If anyone could post some screengrabs from that would be awesome.

the new york fire house(hook and ladder 8) is to this day is a working fire house they only used it for its externial shots.

The only things I’ve seen the NY Firehouse in is an episode of Seinfeld where Kramer joins the fire department, and a film advertisement with Robert DeNiro.

Hitch also helped one of its firemen in the movie of the same name.

Got a new one:

Land of Plenty

The film was shot in 2004 by Wim Wenderes, where he used the second floor as a sorta homeless mission… meaning there’s some really good shots of the second floor crew quarters and connecting corridor for the staircases. I’ve ordered a copy of the DVD through eBay so it should be here soon, hopefully.

It also appears that “R(e)Evolution”, a low-budget film made back in 2005 with Christian Boeving is now being remade as a bigger-budget feature due out in 2010, starring himself, Vin Diesil, Jewel Staite and featuring Joel Schumacher as Producer.

No idea if it’ll still use LA23 for interiors (I hope it does, of course), a note on the site’s blog says the existing trailer is now defunct… but if it does then this should hopefully prove to be another good source for interior shots
