I need everyone’s opinion on a part. I have been in discussion with a company that manufactures metal bellows, similar to the ones used on the proton pack as the “shock mount” on the bumper.
Seen here:
They have 2 different bellows that are a the right diameter and height. The difference is what they are made of and the top of the bellow.
The first one is a brass one:
The second is a stainless steel one:
The brass one physically looks more correct but I always thought that the ones on the packs were aluminum or stainless steel of some sort.
What is everyone’s opinion on this? Would you go for the brass one or the stainless steel one or neither?
This place also has a $200 minimum order so if I do decide to go this way with the bellows, I only need 2 of them and the representative I spoke to said I would have to buy 4 to break the minimum. So if someone else would like to go in on the purchase of some of these, let me know.
Well if that’s true, we COULD get the brass bellow and cap it ourselves, especially if that’s the only thing missing. But that’s just an idea, I’d be interested to hear what others have to say about these.
Okay, I got an email back about the top of the bellows. They do make custom bellows by order BUT they have to be made in the 1000’s and that would greatly increase the cost. The ones that I have pictured are stock ones that they have.
I’m kind of leaning towards getting a brass one and see if some of the people that are good with metal work on this site could make accurate caps for them. That would be pretty cool.
AJ, what did you think of it? Did you like it or do you feel its better to just go with one of the current options that are available within the community?
They are fairly flexibile.. I regret that I never compressed it down, put a washer on the end, trimmed off that ring and painted it silver. It would have been a dead ringer for the real deal.
I really hope Agent J will post a little info and maybe some pics here to help us. He was fortunate enough to have found one of the exact same bellows they used in the films.
Just a little off topic, but I’m curious: Am I the only person who thinks the Shock Mount looks really silly? It’s the only part of the proton pack that I trully have no love for. It looks like a Pinocchio nose to me. I’ve always preferred the flatter bolt look of the RGB toy proton packs personally, and when I make my Pack, it’s one of the few deviations I intend to make from “screen accuracy”.
A few years ago someone made a ton of replicas out of real Bellow Material with caps welded on or something like that. They looked exactly like the real deals.
