# Metal tab on ghost trap?

I apologize if this has been mentioned before. A quick skim of the [ghost trap](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/equipment/ghost-trap) topics here didn’t seem to yield anything. If I missed it, let me know and I will admit to the fail on the search.

While looking at the uniform belt pictures, I noticed that the ghost trap has a metal tab on the end of it. Is this to keep the doors closed while being held vertically?

Is it really? At one point in time I think it was speculated that it may have something to do with the smoking mechanism in the trap, as in the film this odd piece is seen most noticably in the [Slimer](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/characters/slimer) capture I believe, ext. ballroom. I may be WAY OFF. I feel like if they had a solid way of keeping them shut all the time then the doors of one of Ray’s traps wouldn’t be swinging open while he approahces Janine during the Winston interview. Shit always bugged me, but made me laugh a little as that often happens to me.
