My Ecto build Modeled after 1a

The hazard tape above the doors is the wrong color…its supposed to be orange and black…or red and black depending on the scene/screencap…but it’s widely accepted that orange and black is the correct color.

Either way, it ain’t yellow.

You’re next response would probably be yellow is all you can find it in…not true. If you look hard enough you can find orange and yellow but it has two drawbacks, namely that its reflective (terrible for night photos) and hella expensive.

It’s cheaper to have your vinyl shop make the correct stripe for you in two layers.

That’s what I did anyway.

nice build sofar. i think the yellow black caution stiping looks pretty good on there. hell thats what i would have used cuz i thought thats what color it was. guess i never really paid much attention to it. i’m a big fan of the custome made ecto’s. i like the different things ppl add on to make it there own. now if one had an exact replica of the original car then ya i wouldn’t want to see it done up any other way the the original car was done. your ecto is coming along great. can’t wait to see it fully complete.

Chace, Thanks for the tip. Ill have the orange/black tape made, that’s how i got the yellow/black tape for the radar, Thank you for the notice. was also wondering if i should put it above the Rear door? Suggestions?

Sean, Thanks for the invite! Nick told me about the booking, I told him I’m in, BUT…I must leave no later than 6:15 from the event as i have to get ECTO up to Waverly Hills for the haunt…

Venkman - Thank you for the compliments. The thread started with a feeling all i would have is “bad choice” etc… Please note, the Red is not on yet, We have decided to follow the lines that are already on the car. Didn’t think trying to create something that wasn’t there would look right at all…Not sure when we will paint the red, but im looking forward to its addition

That is so awesome!! Can’t wait to see her in person!

So some updated Progress pics . To help with Energy, added 2 Deep Cycle marine batteries, and a 3.5 fared Capacitor, Ecto sure is hungry for Power.

Have changed out all the interior lights for LED, Added the Chrome lights to front of roof rack, Both Antenna’s, Silver Tank behind lightbars, Ectoplasm overflow tube , and various greeblies.

It looks a heck of a lot better as an Ecto than it did as that other wrapped monstrosity.

Plus I for one am glad that even though it’s modeled after 1A that you used the GB1 logo instead of the GB2.

I miss the red fins and rear windows, though.

Alex

I will be getting Red on, however not sure if the Fins can be replicated without looking totally off kilter.

I was not a gan of the GB2 logo.

Thanks greatly, She has been a joy to work on!

sorry this might be a stupid question but how did you connect the two blie hoses to the car? i only ask because i am looking for ways on how to connect the ones on my car. any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated. wicked looking ecto also.

Not a Bad question at all. I had to weld 2 3" rings to a plate, then rivet the plate to ecto, then cut out the hole for the wires. the blue hose then went over the rings and i used hose clamps to tighten them down so they would remain connected. I’ll try to find a picture of the part i made.

thanks for that info. i was kinda thinking along those lines. so thanks again very much for the reply.

So today, a Huge step was taken on Ecto, 2 52" x 8" Scrolling LED Signs came in, the Raydome and the Large white tank are underway…Ecto is scheduled to be in the 50th Carl Casper Auto show in Louisville, and numerous conventions this year…I couldnt be more pleased.

So much time has gone by, and Alot of work on Ecto. The signs installed and working, Tank is installed, Still need to get 2 chrome spot lights to mount on it. Also, when i began the build, i didnt think id ever have the LED signs, so the build didn’t start with them in mind. So, the rack is a bit short. I plan on rebuilding it, and having it powder coated.. Also, i am using 20pin Power connectors from computer power supplies to create a quick disconnect of all the controls to the rack, same with the + and - lines. all the relays will be in a water resistant box, . This will remove alot of clutter from under the rear floor. Id love to add images, but sadly, i dont remember how to put them in.

Is this you???

:sigh:

I believe so. He’s all over instagram. I do like that car a lot. I prefer it without the scrolling signs though. Not that I don’t like them, but I probably would have found a way to mount them over the coach covers or further back. Either way, it’s one of many cool coach-style cars out there.

ok so im guessing you cad has a fiberglass roof ?

My 83 im building has a fiberglass roof and sides and Im trying to keep the heft down as i dont know how much the roof/cap well hold …

From what Bryan has told me with fiberglass roofs, you just don’t bolt stuff into them. You need to create a steel brace inside that everything bolts to. He says it will fly off the car after awhile if you don’t brace it inside.

Either way, I actually like this build. It shows up a lot on Instagram. I do think it looks a lot nicer without the scroller signs blocking up the sides of the roof rack(which is a good looking rack). I’d love to see them mounted in the correct spots or along the sides of the coach portion.

Yeah thats my build. i dont like the placement either…but the rack isn’t tall enough to mount the signs to the proper location. Where were yall suggesting that they be mounted? Wish i knew instagram well enough, would love to see pics of ecto

I think I see pics of your Ecto on Instagram as much as I see Bryan’s. You’re usually at fast food places?

Honestly, I’d take down the boards until I could raise the rack higher. Your rack is so great, I hate seeing so much of it covered up.

Maybe buy some newer smaller style scroller boards so they can be mounted over the coach areas or next to the sides of the rack?

Either way, I dig your car. I like seeing what people do with coach style Ectos. I think they’re perfectly valid cars to use. They remind me of the car in Extreme Ghostbusters, which was a coach style car with a more modern body style an 59 fins added.
