New uniform....

Yeah my suit arrived. It’s a good quality suit, just not as baggy as I would’ve liked. Still fits ok, though. I’m washing it a few times and on Saturday I might try and colour-strip it and add one packet of Dyson Grey just to get the browny/sandy colour out of it. It’s a little bit darker tan than my old suit at the moment.

AMC, I’m of the belief that the movie suits weren’t dyed either. I can’t remember where I saw it and who said it but someone had said that it’s no big mystery that suits from the 1970s-1980s would be different in color and materials than suits we buy now. It seems like a lot of discussion goes on about whether or not the original suits were dyed, and not so much about whether they were just a different color to begin with. Either way, I say dying is the way to go to make today’s suits look more like the movie suits.

I think when I dye, I’m gonna try the color stripper and black dye. Hopefully it works ok…I hear Nomex is a bitch to dye. =P

I read that ‘how to’ dye link Ryu and I’m going to cut to the chase and try RIT black dye on the nomex if I go with dying, chuck the pads in there too and spray the pad part after. My theory is that it is better to not subject the suit to mulitple dying and if I find it a little dark just wash it a few times.

Who’s up for a possible beer, burgers and flightsuit dying weekend lol?

I tried colour-stripping the suit today. It made f*ck-all difference. That’s after 3 washes with fabric softener. So now I’m trying the grey dye. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Hey I’m happy to have ya’s round for beers anytime. Or beers at the Clarendon Hotel on Fridays, topless waitress between 3pm-6pm  Not to mention the meat raffle, lol. Gotta love western Sydney, it’s where the real cool people hang out.

You know what’s funny? I’ve recently been looking into paying a visit to a good friend of ours in Perth. If we get the chance to make it to AU and find our way to Sydney (which, if we actually do go to Australia then I’m sure we’d have to go to Sydney for at least a couple days) I’ll definitely look you guys up!

I’ll remember to bring my suit. ^_~

Perth is great, I’ve been there a few times with the Air Force. Northbridge is party central, just a whole street with bars and clubs. I’ve heard it’s degenerated a bit lately and it’s mostly strip clubs now. Scarborough Beach is awesome too on a Sunday. We had a mad Sunday session at the pub across from the beach. I love Perth  Also pay a visit to the Swan Valley wineries and breweries. Actually now that I think of it, I don’t think I did anything except drink while I was there, lol. Fun times, though.

Charlie can probably tell you more seeing that Kalgoorlie is a lot closer to Perth than Sydney is.

Yeah come to Sydney too. It’s not as good as Melbourne or Gold Coast, but it’s alright, lol.

Yeah Rick look forward to hearing how it goes with the dying. Sounds like a good wateringhole you got there hehe. Oh and the best strip clubs are in Budapest, raven haired, tanned, blue eyed sirens, lesbian lapdances, and they actually tell you NOT to keep your hands to yourself. Choice.

Forgot to mention Rick you seen these pics of the GB suit? Looks alot like the colour of your suit in the auction you won. I noticed even in the new game the suits don’t look that gray. I wouldn’t sweat it re the colour.

Wow, Ernie is a lot thinner than I thought…look at how he has the velcro straps crossed on his suit.

It’s just a personal preference I guess, I like the suit to be a little less tan and more pale/grey.

By the way I figured out why the dye didn’t take yesterday, I forgot to add the salt! Trying again today, maybe I’ll have more luck.

I paid for my order with MMM last night, He reckons it’ll be shipped next Wednesday, so add about 2 weeks transit and it should be here at the end of the month or first week of June. Can’t wait.

Well I ran it through the dye process about 3 times today but it didn’t really work that well. Nomex is pretty hard to dye! I think it does look a little bit lighter, but not grey. I’m happy to leave it as is for now, though, otherwise it won’t match the rest of the group.

After it dries I’ll put the patches on and see how it looks. I also put all the labels on my Pack today.

Thanks for the feedback on your dye process, Rick.

So that was with the Dyson gray dye? I wonder if the Rit might make a difference.

Hey Rick have you noticed any suit shrinkage after that process, you used real hot water too yeh? I have some black RIT dye ready, that’s what I’m going to use if I go the dye route. Just waitng to see how yours goes hehe.

Yeah that was with Dyson. I actually used a little bit of black in the last time as well. I think it’s because all the flame-proof shit didn’t come off in the wash. I don’t have a dryer and I can’t say I’ve ever seen those conditioner sheets that SolidGoldCaddy talked about.

My suit was kinda tight to start with but I don’t think it shrunk any. I was afraid of that as well, to be honest! But the hot water didn’t make a difference.

I’ve seen another suit by Carter Industries (that’s the same as your’s isn’t it, AMC?) on Ebay that’s 42s. It might be a bit baggier so I put a bid on it.

Yeah Rick I wasnt sure if your suit was a different brand because the colour of the tan suits for sale in all the auctions I bought mine in look a little more true to GB colour. Fingers crossed its the same in real life as the pic. When it arrives I’ll let you know. Good to know you didnt experience any shrinkage though.

Ok so the suit arrived today, it fits like it was custom made, V happy. treasure-hunter59 was the ebay seller I bought it from, excellent service if you guys need one. Also seller hoobub is excellent too as he helped me get the right size even though he didnt have the size needed in stock. Both sell used and new nomex suits.

Rick, as for the colour, mine is made by carter industries as you know already and I mean if you are in sunlight it looks tan, in the shade it looks alot more neutral in colour. You never really see the outfits in direct daylight, Also I did a bit of a test and turned on the webcam and looked at the colour, it looks quite grey so Im really leaning to not colouring at this stage as the links I posted before with Ernie etc don’t look that grey to me. Since the suit is a nice even colour I might go for the if it ain’t broke ideal on this one. Let me know how the colour of the one you bid on compares to the one you won weeks back.

I got my stuff from MMM in the mail today. I’m very happy

I got a new utility belt with hose, belt gizmo, and key ring. Also some urethane hoses and resin pieces for my Pack. I might need to order a couple more brass unions now, which i probably should’ve done with this order.

Gotta go out and get some Testers model paint tomorrow so I can paint up the resin parts.

I’m hoping my new bigger flight suit arrives in the next week or two.

Hey Rick also I have been washing the suit a bit when there’s a light coloured wash on. Use fabric softener, thats the same ■■■■ as those sheets, it takes that ‘sheen’ off the fabric. I got 2 packs of pearl grey RIT in the mail the other day too, will have a go this w/e hopefully. My bumper is being fixed for the pack. got the boots in the mail 2 days back, it’s kinda all getting there. I saw that dyson brand in Belrose but they didnt have a grey one in stock so I am going to stick to rit, have a few goes at dying it. I’ll let you know how I go. The MMM stuff is pretty good. How much more pack work do you have to do?

Not much at all, really. I have to re-make the HDA tomorrow because the holes I drilled into it previously are too big for the SMC elbows. That shouldn’t take too long.

Today I attached all the tubing that I got from MMM, and painted up the resin parts and stuck them on. It’s looking really good now. I’d like to compare it to your’s and Ben’s, but I think they’d all be very similar in dimension so they should look good together.

Hey I saw you have some sort of spring action going in the barrel, you got an extending tip installed?
