i cant wait to start watching you do all the filling and filing, for some really weird reason that’s my favorite part about watching styrene builds. PLEASE tell me you’re scratching the thrower too.
It may be hard to tell from that picture, but I’ve already filled it with bondo and sanded everything as clean as I can, I’m really excited to see paint on it, so I can tell what needs to be redone.
and I will be scratch-building the thrower as well, I couldn’t bring myself to buy a kit after building everything else from scratch, it would seem… wrong.

Well well well.. how shimmery. I did this in hopes I could scratch away the beautiful faux-metal beneath…
.. but it just smudges and looks like ■■■■. Oh well!
A satin black coating, which gave the pack a nice.. sanded plastic texture. It looked pretty awful.
I then attached the injector tubes as well as the Ion arm, sanded the major parts with 220 grit, and painted it again with the hammered finish, which looks phenomenal.
Then I started finishing the bumper, I filled some of it with MDF so I wouldn’t have to use so much bondo- which is a major pain in my ass, seriously use Aves Epoxy Putty, or something similar. Bondo sucks.

Back again! Finally moved to the beautifully hot as HELL, Austin, TX- and have resumed work on the ol’ P-Pack.
Here she is thus far, added the labels VIA the label tutorial, only I put tape on both sides, thus thinly laminating-
Which started to suck when the PPD label began to peel off, but after a shit-load of glue and some, MANHANDLING-
It works just fine (for now)

Just curious but..
Does anyone know a good technique for determining what a circle should look like at a specific angle? IE: If I was going to cut a hole in the gun body, what shape should the circle be for the handle to fit in.
to do this on the booster tube I measured the angle of the EDA, cut out a triangle and then glued that onto the tube and cut it.
Anyone know a better method? I keep mis-cutting my handle by a few degrees and it really shows when I test fit it.
it can be done a few ways. i know i had trouble with the first couple guns i ever built. you can cut a scrap peice of tubing at a 45 degree angle then just trace that cut onto your surface. you can always file the opening to fit. Its usually easier to slide your tubing into the face of the gun body rather than glue the tubing to the face. it will be stronger as well.
Yeah, eventually I measured the angle of the gunbox (it was like 50 degrees) then did my best cutting the pipe, drew a circle around the pipe as a template, did a bit of guesstimating, and THEN cut it out, and after a bit of sanding.. it’s straight!

Attached instrument bar + cut little windows for the wiring.
More holes for wires… weeeeeee. (Lame update I know.)
and that’s all I got for now.

Found these at Home Depot, a perfect fit for my little green lever. So I tapped the little end…
Then screwed a piece of green tubing on. Tada! Movie magic.
An exciting picture of fins! What I did was cut a long piece of styrene, sanded it down and cut it into sections.
There we have a slightly imperfect but cheap heat-sink, my favorite kind. I’m very glad to have that piece out of the way.

Out of curiosity, what does the pack weigh in at?

I don’t have a scale or anything, but I’d guesstimate around 16ish lbs.
Other than the handle being a bit too on the low side, this is pretty nice!
16 lbs wouldn’t be too bad to lug around. Now I want to make one for sure.
