Orgasm, orgasm, orgasm. The art looks spot on, and this is the dark GB series a lot of us have been nutting over in our dreams.

> Put some gas in the Ecto-1 and fire up your proton packs, the Ghostbusters are finally back in business, accepting requests, and ready to help with your paranormal needs in IDW Publishing’s “Ghostbusters: The Other Side,” set to hit stores in October. And now we’ve got your first look at the upcoming series from writer Keith Champagne and artist Tom Nguyenwho together have crafted a story that pits the four heroes against a slew of new boogeymen out to terrorize New York.
>
> Well, make that old boogeymen, Champagne explained in an interview with MTV News, revealing that the first issue would see bad guys made out of wise guys. “Lucky Luciano, Bugsy Seigal, Meyer Lansky, and Al Capone,” Champagne wrote. “Ghosts [that] were the types of guys that — while alive — weren’t shy about hitting first.”
>
> You can glimpse the four tommy gun holding made men in the cover, revealed exclusively here on MTV’s Splash Page along with the first art.
>
> [![image](http://splashpage.mtv.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/072608_ghostbusters1_th.jpg)](http://splashpage.mtv.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/072608_ghostbusters1.jpg) [![image](http://splashpage.mtv.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/072608_ghostbusters2_th.jpg)](http://splashpage.mtv.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/07/072608_ghostbusters2.jpg)
>
> More interesting than who they fight, however, might very well be when they fight, as in “when in the continuity of the series does the comic pick up?”
>
> “Directly after the second movie,” Champagne revealed, his answer exposing the fact that this is the closest we’ll ever get to a real “Ghostbusters” sequel.
>
> “So we’re back about ‘89 or ‘90. The decade isn’t important so much as picking up with these characters before they were watered down in so many different incarnations between now and then. The Ghostbusters are flying high in the aftermath of defeating Gozer and Vigo. Enough so that the gang has caught the attention–and the ire–of a quartet of Ghosts that realize the Ghostbusters are getting a little too big for their britches, that the gang could become a threat to these particular ghosts way of un-life. And these ghosts look at guys like Gozer and Vigo as pansy ballerinas, and they decide to get rid of the Ghostbusters before the Ghostbusters can get rid of them.”
>
> Enter Capone, Seigal, et all. Exit the Ghostbusters themselves. Wait, what?
>
> “Did I mention that the Ghostbusters all die at the end of the first issue?” Champagne teased, hinting at future trips to the afterlife, Dante’s “Inferno” as told by Bill Murray. “For real.”
>
> The death of the Ghostbusters (for a little while, anyway), is indicative of a darker approach to the material, Champagne insisted, emphatically stating that his series would never devolve into the types of stories told by the animated series, what Champagne called “Slimer, accompanied by his pals, the Ghostbusters.”
>
> “I can’t be thankful enough for that — for no Slimer,” Champage wrote. “The way the parameters of this series were described to me was to push the boundaries of a PG-13 movie and not aim the story at kids the way some of the other Ghostbuster stuff has been in the past. There’s plenty of humor here but there’s also some darker themes and real character development in the place of green slime.”
>
> The focus squarely on the four Ghostbusters themselves, there will also be no Louis Tully (Rick Moranis), no Dana Barrett (Sigourney Weaver), either, Champagne said.
>
> “It’s just a real back-to-basics approach to the property. It’s a different kind of adventure for the team, part adventure, part hard boiled crime drama, plenty of comedy,” Champagne asserted. “But the focus is squarely back on the characters we all loved growing up. Which is where it should be.”
>
> “The Ghostbusters” comic comes to shops in October.

Bear in mind that is the cover artwork… so obviously it’s gonna look beautiful.

Hopefully we’ll see some interiors soon.

Okay, so I can live without no [Dana Barrett](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/characters/dana-barrett) and definitely no [Louis Tully](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/characters/louis-tully)…but what worries me is the comment about it focusing on “the four Ghostbusters” solely. It’s troubling because there are those of us who do fall in the Egon/Janine camp and while it’d be no doubt that she’s in it, I can’t help but wonder if we’ll see any of that in this comic.

I doubt it.

Maybe some sexual tension, ala GB1, but I couldn’t see it going past that.

This is the way a comic should be. I’m gad Dana isn’t it in it.

Bring it on!

I’m glad Dana isn’t in it too.

I’ve always thought she was one of the story problems with GB2, along with Janine and Louis getting together. While she didn’t harm the movie.. would have been better if strange things were happening to someone else.

That’s actually an interesting way of putting it. I suppose that is why GB2 is most often referred to as being basically a remake of GB1.

I’d say that’s precisely the reason :walterpeck:

Heh.

That.. and it is laid out exactly the same way. Dana comes to them looking for help.. rising action.. montage.. rising action.. climax. roll credits with theme song. I would have loved to see something that wasn’t essentially a rehash of the same format.

But otherwise GB2 is a good film.

I’m just glad with things like [the Video Game](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/games/ghostbusters-the-video-game) and this Comic breaking the routine..

Oh don’t get me wrong. When I said earlier about Dana, I mostly meant as some kinda love interest for Peter to fawn for if they were going to have them be together after GB2. Not really make her integral to the plot at all, but just as the romantic interest. Nothing more. Nothing less.

the same things Dan did with Blues Brothers 2000: out of jail, Penguin, reforming the band, some gigs around USA, problems with police and nazists (or russians), final show, escape.

This comic is looking Great…

do you think the 88mph comics will increase in value as the years pass?

Plus, is there a website that you can preorder this comic?

LMAO! I’m excited about this and about Dana, I think the biggest reason that she was still around wasn’t because her character was strong so much as [Sigourney Weaver](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/people/sigourney-weaver) is such a great actress. Because it was her playing the role of Dana I think that necesitated the inclusion of Dana into GBII. But I liked GBII, yeah it had the same format, there’s no arguing that, but it had a good story and I liked it a lot.

As I mentioned on PC, I’m fairly skeptical of the new book. I don’t particularly like the cover art, and I’m wary of them running too far w/ the whole “dark” thing (a la TDK).

As much as Seb was an utter scumbag, the 88mph product was exceptional…his team did a great job, despite the captain of the ship. If these new books are comparable, fantastic! But until I see a finished product, I remain slightly hesitant.

Hearing the news of the Ghostbusters supposedly dying in the first issue, I have to admit I’m a little more hesitant myself now. I agree with you completely that I’m now worried about them taking the “darker” approach a little too far. I don’t want to see one of our beloved Ghostbusters actually wind up dead for good. Obviously, I assume that it won’t last for long, so whatever is done to bring them back, it better bring them all back.

To be honest, though, that does bring up kind of a problem with that storyline. How can they pull that off without it just being ridiculous? I know it doesn’t have to be 100% realistic, but that sounds like it could end up being really lame. I’m still excited to see it either way, though. I’m hoping it will be really good.
