Soooo.. We’ve beaten this dead horse a lot here but It’s my turn with the bat. I’m not here trying to debate which idea is more screen accurate but to ask if anyone has ever used the twist style mechanism to extend the barrel that does NOT go into the thrower body?

I had the idea last night when I was looking at the toilet paper holder. The device was relatively small and looked like it could fit into the front handle of the thrower, plus it was hollow allowing the light wires to pass through.

I spent all day making what I think has never been done but I would like to see if any one else has made this before I go shooting off at the mouth. lol Pics will follow (insert teaser music here) 😃

turn handle it poped out, the clear tube did not turn with the handle it stayed straight as it should, and you could push the tip back in to lock it in place, whole mech i wanna say was 4" long

Amazing work sir. That’s basically how I did mine but I have to turn my handle back up to retract the tube. I imagine yours has some kind of spring loaded catch to allow the tube to press back in like that?

Michael Clifton used a homemade twist pop mech in his Nickatron thrower build

Wow…Thanks for all this info guys. I really didn’t find all this stuff using the search function the other day.

Here’s what I made. This part must be able to slide forward but NOT rotate so I put a slit in the back so it can do just that. The spring will go between this part (very front near the keeper screw) and the larger side of the toilet paper holder which is inside the handle. I wasn’t able to take a pic of it since it’s wedged in the handle pretty well, plus I forgot to snap pics while making it.

Here is the inside of the body with the fully functional twist pop. At rest it doesn’t impede the body at all but when you push the tip in, it comes in only about an inch. You can see the set screw here holding the inner tube in place; don’t worry, black paint helps remove this.

If you look at the front handle in this pic you can see a screw with gold washers on the body. This bolt holds the tube assembly to the thrower and allows it to slide forward and back.

As for the inner tube, its just the larger side of the tp holder so the spring will sit inside of it but it has a trench cut out of it with a cut off to the left about 2" down to allow the set screw to pass down it and lock in place. A simple twist of the handle and “make em hard” happens. 😃

I hope I was able to properly explain what I’ve done here with out confusing anyone. Please feel free to ask questions if I’ve failed at that. Thanks for looking. Alex.
