Here’s a question to those who are using Crix’s light kit (both pack and gun). What are you using to power your kit?

Right now, I’m using a standard 9V battery. I’d figured that would be correct to use. However, I’m having issues. I’m not sure if it could be a wiring issue, or the fact that the battery is not powerful enough.

I turn my pack on. For 20-30 minutes my lights are good, but then they start to get real dim, and then it looks like they stop working. I turn it off, for say…an hour, then I can turn it back on and they work normally again.

I know its not really draining my 9V battery but sometimes it seems like it. I mean, I can put in a new 9V and it powers up as good…but I see people with their lights on for most of the day and it works flawlessly. What could be happening to mine? Is it shorting out somewhere? I’d figured if it shorts, it wouldn’t work at all, right?

Would really love to solve and fix this issue once and for all so I can have a normal pack.

If I had to take a guess, I take it the ohms from the 9V battery isn’t enough, right, and thats why I only have lights for 30 minutes?

9 volt batteries do not have the energy density to power pack lights for very long. I’m actually surprised you’ve managed to get one to power a full kit for so long. Is the battery really hot when it stops working?

A lot of people have taken to using 12v CCTV batteries commonly available on Ebay. They take a while to charge but they’ll last for a full day of use and can handle the current requirements.

Ok, well, that does explain it then. Everytime I see 9V, I always think of just the standard 9V battery. It doesn’t really occur to me that people use 12V or other methods (although it SHOULD)…I’m really, really bad with electronics.

I do have a 9.6V rechargable battery pack that produces 1200 or 1600ohms I think. I use that for my Amp. I may splice it and use it for my lights as well. Although I think I may run a couple of tests tonight and see how long lights will stay on. Its possible I may just have to swap that out with a 12V pack.
