The rubber prevents the wearer from losing the cover to the battery compartment, so I believe the other end of it encircles the other half of the battery compartment.

What size bit did you use vinny? I’ve removed snaps for years, never had a snag. 1/4" bit, works every time.
I know this is an older thread, but does anybody have any pictures of how the straps are fed through the ladder buckle and how the head strap is connected to it all?
