How many of you haven gotten this? Me, I get this a lot, and it ■■■■■■ me off to no end. I get it mostly from a lot of girls wanting to do slutty/sexy versions. I do a lot of conventions and meet a lot of people and over time I get messages on facebook that tend to go like this. “Hey! I was wondering if I could borrow your ghostbusters props for a convention sometime. I already have a [flight suit](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/equipment/uniform) so I’d only need your gear. Thanks!” **Are people mad?!** “oh yeah sure! here’s $3,000 worth of equipment knock yourself out! Ya know what, just keep it. It’s super easy and cheap to build. I’ll just make more. Only took me a few hours.” Seriously though, anyone else get this? ---

I’ve only really seen that happen here (around Halloween, of course). Although The Steel City group had some clown email us asking to borrow equipment for a fan film they wanted to make. We told them we didn’t like them borrowing our stuff without us being present, so they said one of us could be there. Then they told us the concept was essentially a Kylie/Eduardo fan film, so we told them no. They kept hounding us, told us they were “professionals” and wouldn’t make a parody or comedy because that isn’t “art”. Then they said they would change the story, give us parts in the film, give us credit as “consultants”. Once again we said no, then they changed their idea for the third time in 2 days to a web series where new recruits made their own equipment out of old camera and other appliance parts. Other than that we’re pretty lucky with people understanding that these are our personal possessions and that we don’t like strangers handling them. Occasionally if I meet a fan and they are really excited I’ll let them grab a pic wearing my pack but that’s about it. ---

Oh yeah, I’m sure everyone has been down that road. Myself and a few friends lent our packs, traps, goggles, etc to one photo shoot for a group of “nerdy girlz”. Our condition though was that we were on hand to supervise our gear and still stuff was broken. In the end my advise is DO NOT LEND OUT YOUR GEAR. Owning a one-off custom pack, I understand this all too well. Unlike you guys if my thrower gets broken I can’t order another one, or a kit, which is in iteself a huge PITA, I gotta rebuild from scratch! That’s a part of the reason I decided to buy Burkitt’s pack. I’ll wear it for the first time at the parade in Boston and not have to ask to borrow one, or go without, then have it shipped back home. ---

I have let a few select people put on the pack for a few minutes at Halloween parties and whatnot, but I usually help them put it on and take it off and I stand very close. I am very protective of my gear and would never lend it out to anyone. :whatever: ---

Thanks!” There was someone in our St. Louis group who gave up building a pack (deciding it was too much time, work, and money) and thought, “Why don’t I just borrow one of Mikhail’s packs?” On one hand, yes, I have not one, but two packs that are just sitting idly in my workshop that evening. He catches me off guard by calling me on the spot, asking to borrow one. I quickly exaggerate and say that the fiberglass pack is undergoing modifications, but that he can take the foam-core pack. Just to be safe, I switch out the nice foam-core thrower with an experimental junk thrower. After securely storing the pack in his trunk and reading him the standard death threats should so much as the ion rod get bent, he informs me that he is entering my pack in a costume contest for an event that evening! Fortunately, the pack came back undamaged, but nothing quite like having other people try to take advantage of your hard work for their own gain. ---

Thankfully In the US we have the right to bear arms to protect our life, liberty and pursuit of happiness. Perhaps a sign on your packs that says “Guns dont kill people…owners of expensive, hand made, unlicensed nuclear accelerators do” would get the point across? ---

Had a buddy of mine “commission” me to make an outfit for him ([flight suit](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/equipment/uniform) w/ patches, belt, keyfobs, elbow pads, etc, but no heavy gear). That Halloween he wanted to hit all the costume parties at the local bars with the full gear setup and got a little miffed I relegated him to the [slime blower](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/equipment/slime-blower) (less than $1500) and not the [proton pack](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/equipment/proton-pack) ($2500+). We won the “big” competition we went to, but he walked away with the prize (2x $50 bar tab coupons; I don’t drink). He kept pretty good care of the slime blower, until he managed to break off the forward handle and replied to my protests with a half-hearted apology. I like to think I made the right decision in who wore what equipment. ---

I let my wife try on my pack after it was finished cause she wanted to be the first to wear it. I helped her put it on and after like 30 seconds she was like “GET IT OFF” I think its the weight she was surprised by. I think the only person I know that has wanted to borrow it was the comic shop here in town. Kaboom Test Labs. They are an amazing comic shop and the owner is awesome. He has an extras glass case that it would sit in, locked up so no onlookers can molest it. He wants to borrow it for a weekend to attract people in to the shop…what do you guys think? He is offering some free comics of my choice. ---

If it will stay locked in the case and the only person to touch it is you putting it in and you taking it out I can’t see any issues. But do you really think that they won’t be able to resist opening that case and at least playing with the thrower if not putting on the whole pack? As always. Beware. As for being asked, yes I have. My best friend Asked to borrow my pack for This Halloween. I said Sure (because it’s worth around sixty not three thousand).
