Since I just received my authentic [Crank knob](https://www.gbfans.com/shop/crank-knob) from AJ today, I thought I’d throw this out for general discussion.

What do you guys think is the best, most secure way to attach a Crank knob to the [proton pack](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/equipment/proton-pack)?

I have a few ideas myself, but figured maybe some of you have done it in the past. And I suspect alot of people will be adding the new knobs to their existing packs soon.

I’m using Potentiometer or maybe rotary switch if I decide to tie into my soundboard. But a pot is probably the easiest way if you want it to be movable.

Does a Potentiometer have screws to attach it to the shell? Or do you just bondo it in place?

There is a threaded portion on pots to panel mount it.

FYI.

The knob you purchased is not a Raytheon knob. It is just referred to as a [Crank Knob](https://www.gbfans.com/shop/crank-knob).

The easiest way to mount it would be to use a 1/4-20 bolt, with the setscrews holding it in place.

Any suggestions for making it turn?

Potentiometer. Thats what I used on both my packs and trap to make the knobs actually turn.

Get a rotary on/off switch instead of a pot :3

I made mine turn with just the bolt. All you need is a washer on the inside, a washer on the outside, and a nut on the outside. The nut will keep the bolt from flopping about but allow the knob to turn with the washer there to reduce the friction.

Yeah this is the way to go incase you decide you want to adjust it… Or if some admirer behind you decides to play with it it wont snap off or become loose.

So I was thinking using a long 1/4 inch bolt. Cutting off the threaded section so I’ll have the correct length with a few washers on. Oth sides. Will adjust the set screws so there is some resistance to turning the knob. Plan on a touch of mild lock-tight to the set screws. They’re notorious for getting loose.

(Thanks for the edit AJ on the knob description. My error. )
