So the search function continues to be my nemesis. Who can link me to or give me advice on making a shock mount for my [proton pack](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/equipment/proton-pack)? I just need something quick that’ll get the job done for now. I recall some time back someone had instructions involving a bolt and a couple of sizes of washers but I can’t find it. Any help is appreciated. I’m in a bit of a time crunch, I’ll be getting [Dan Aykroyd](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/people/dan-aykroyd) to sign my pack on Thursday. Thanks everyone.

Some options for the washer mthod can be found here:

I was able to find at the home depot a 1 1/4 " steel ■■■■■■ in the plumbing section.

Hope this helps.

I went with the washer route from Hookers second link up there.

I glued the smaller washers to the larger ones in pairs like you see at the bottom of the picture and then glued them all together in a stack, until I got the correct height. It’s not screen accurate but I think it gets the job done.

The washer method is really a great cheap alternative. Awesome stuff.

Despite all the upgrades and improvements made to my pack my washer [ion knob](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/equipment/proton-pack/ion-knob) remains standing proud on my pack 😃

It was even fitted to my latest pack after I sold the pack shown in that link. I refuse to replace it!

I went with the stacked washer route, but I would suggest using plastic/nylon washers for the smaller diameter “inner” washers.

You could paint them silver if you are so inclined, but you can’t even tell once they are together and on the pack. I didn’t paint mine and you can’t even tell because they are nested deep enough inside the metal washers to be hidden:

A stack of solid metal washers of the correct height for the shock mount is HEAVY. I didn’t want to put that kind of strain on my [bumper](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/equipment/proton-pack/bumper) screws… and I really felt the nylon washers cut the weight down to a much more acceptable level.

Like Jester5891 did, I glued one small washer to one large one, then stacked them all together.

I wanted something lighter weight on our packs, but that still looked decent. Ours weigh almost nothing, but still look pretty good.

Basically mine are pvc wrapped in thick weed whacker line, painted, and then capped with two actual washers, and a bolt.

The details are on page 1 and 2 of my build thread.

Thanks for all the help everyone. I ended up using a cariage bolt with 2 layers of washers. To keep the weight down I used black rubber washers for the smaller washers, worked perfectly.
