Ok so there’s a person on [BluRay.com](http://BluRay.com) who is adamantly against [Afterlife](https://www.gbfans.com/shop/ghostbusters-afterlife) (and [Frozen Empire](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/ghostbusters-frozen-empire)). They’ve consistently criticized it since the trailer. The biggest thing they’ve stuck to is that Egon would never have intimate relations with a woman…ever…so it makes no sense he’d ever father a child. 1 other person actually agrees with them. They claim he’s too Autistic, has no desire for affection, ignoring Janine’s advances etc…basically “for reasons”. I don’t understand how being Autistic equals no sexual interest but that’s their stance. This was brought up again because of the Animated Movie News.

Anyway since Afterlife (ya 2021) the person has made this quote their signature:

“I started to feel it was really wrong for Egon to suddenly become emotionally involved in any way”

-Harold Ramis

I know they’re basically hating and the whole thing is dumb. They pretty much exclusively post in GB topics. I’m very curious where this quote is from though. At the time I looked through articles and watched a bunch of interviews. The closest thing I found was this from the Making Of. Which actually implies Egon IS attracted to her but they didn’t care to elaborate on it.

I’m positive there’s more to the quote the person is using. Like it’s out of context or part of it was left off. I’ve never asked them because I know they’ll never give me a straight answer. The other person, who’s in agreement, did give me their explanation but has ignored my follow up replies.

Found it, it’s from part of the interview footage featuring Harold in _Cleaning Up The Town_, it starts at the 38:23 mark:

> **[Dailymotion](https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x8hb08v)**

One potential explanation that I suspect said user/s might be intentionally ignoring is that Egon might’ve approached Callie’s conception from a purely scientific standpoint. He may not’ve felt attraction to Callie’s mother, but perhaps he was open to helping a friend, or to contribute towards a scientific study, which had the end result of bringing Callie into the world.

The tricky thing about holding Harold’s view by the time he recorded that interview with the Buenos, and even when he was doing interviews for _[Ghostbusters II](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/games/ghostbusters-ii-activision)_ as carved-in-stone canon, is it does contrast strongly with what might’ve been his view of Egon and Janine’s unconventional relationship back when he and Dan worked on the early scripts for the first film… In the July 6th, 1983 draft, Harold and Dan had Egon and Janine getting married in Vegas: [LINK](https://www.spookcentral.tk/sclib/ghostbusters-script-july-6-1983-excerpts)

Thank you so much. I knew it. He’s talking specifically about Egon and Janine. I didn’t even know they got married in a previous draft.

Ya I thought of the scientific standpoint too but these users maintain he lacks interest in human affection altogether. I noted he liked when Dana kissed him and the epididymis joke but of course I got no response. It’s such a weird personality trait to label him with. Like they wish him to be that way.

Others have disagreed with them in general about the movies overall but they keep saying the same thing.

Plus, I mean c’mon the scene in Ray’s Occult in GB2, you could interpret Egon’s epididymis line at the very least that female students throwing themselves at him at [Columbia University](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/locations/columbia-university).

Ya that he enjoys the attention. He’s saying it with a bit of a smile.

I didn’t realize Paul has the full July 83 script, nice.

Kingpin nailed it! If you want the quote in print form, the Cleanin’ Up the Town book is now available and has interview transcripts. Harold talks more on the subject in the Too Hot to Handle GB2 doc.

There was a really old trailer for the Cleanin’ doc back when it included GB2-- there might be some nuggets on the subject in that trailer. I can’t remember exactly what all was in there, but it’s pretty long.

Scratch that, he doesn’t. It’s the incomplete copy.

Perhaps I should start a Patreon?
