StaggeringElk's Gun/Pack Build- Back in Action

Here is my kit from MMM. It is the updated kit with the gun box inserts and the new banjos. Hope to get started on it this weekend. Will be posting other pics of my progress.

dude, does it come w/ switches too, now?

Only switch included is the cosmetic one that “extends the barrel”. The rest are either supplied with the various electronics or have to be purchased independently.

i count 5 , 2 momentary press and 3 toggle

Hmm, didn’t notice that little bag. Colin isn’t offering it as part of the normal set, as far as I’m aware.

You are correct sir, StaggeringElk purchased them seperately to fill the voids until he gets a light kit.

Yeah and I appreciate you putting those in my purchase. It was like Christmas when I got the box.

As for updates I have only trimmed the base plate to be flush with the gun box. I should have time this weekend to work more on it.

Man, this looks absolutely great. Thanks for the high-rez picture, really gives a good idea of the quality of the parts. Have I mentioned that I can’t wait to get mine? :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah im using my Canon Rebel xti to take those pics. Yeah I have not gotten any work done on the gun, because of school and work. Hopefully this week I can start. The only work I have done is trimmed the base plate and waiting to attach it as soon as I can.

One down side of making your own parts is you dont get packages like this in the post anymore.

anyway, parts look great and I look forwardto seeing the build up

All I had time for was outlining all the parts that needs to be epoxied and drilled. I used Colin’s references and looked at some of Stefan gun plans

Hope to be drilling out the vent slots and waiting to do the bar graph when i decide on which gun light kit I go with.

Yeah it was cool. It was like Christmas when I got it. Colin does a great job. I wish I could make my own parts, but its good to see someone in the community providing great products and great service.

well you seem to be going about this just the right way. Planning ahead and taking you’r time.

Measure twice and cut once

Only thing I will say is you may want to raise you rear instrument bar up a tad so its flush were angle starts.

I’ll definitely be keeping a keen eye on this thread, between SlimeMePlease’s and yours, Elk, there should be a good helping of information for assembling Colin’s kit.

Have you given any consideration to adding the thread from a bolt to the side knobs for added strength?

thanks man. Actually no I have not considered that. That’s not a bad idea. Thanks for the suggestion.

yeah I want to do this right and not try to rush it and risk messing something up. On the instrument bar, I was using Colins reference and it looked like that. So I didn’t know it was flush with the angle on the gun box.

mine’s the same way. I really don’t think it will make THAT much of a difference. Plus, I’m left handed…so it’s not like it’s gonna be the ultimate in comfort no matter how much I raise the instrument bar.

Yeah I am left handed as well. It does seem a little awkward, but it is nothing I couldn’t handle.

Hope to have some more progress pics here pretty soon. Had to put my car in the shop cause if transmission problems, so it has slowed my build progress down.

so are you leaving yours without the slo blo box flush w/ the angle break on the main box?

…if you leave yours, I’ll leave mine. lol. maybe we’ll start a trend.

Yeah Im leaving it the way I have outlined it on my gun box.

Finally got to work on my gun today. Been busy with school and work. Its hard to work on anything when you have finals around the corner. I attached the slo-blo box and clippard on. Also started drilling out the vents, gonna have my future father in-law do it at his shop. He said he could give me a cleaner look and it would only take him a few minutes. Dont have any pic ups yet, ran into a problem when drilling the base plate, had to fill two of the holes with putty and have to wait for them to dry. A lesson learned, but that’s what this is, a learning project. got the clippard barbs in probably gonna reinforce those with some epoxy. Also wish i had the brass inserts for the slo-blo and the clippard. Hope to have some pics up and some more progress.
