Apologies if this has already been posted…

In GB1 when the Ghostbusters are in the lift Egon switches on Ray’s pack somewhere around the [power cell](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/equipment/proton-pack/power-cell). I can’t for the life of me find out where this switch is. Anyone any ideas??

That’s known, I think, as the _[phantom](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/characters/the-phantom) switch_. It does not exist on any pack and was done just for the esthetics of that scene… I too pondered that “switch me on” scene for long time.

You know I never thought about that till now , when I was younger I thought it was a switch on the wand , or near it , but forgot about it till now

To get get around the “[Phantom](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/characters/the-phantom) Switch” thing, because I’m picky, I just tell myself that they used the screw top on the Clippard Valve for the switch. There’s just something that gripes me about building a fictional prop and using a pretend switch. If they wanted to flip a switch, why didn’t they build one in? Movie magic is so wasted on me…

I’m sure Ivan Riteman said something like… “That’s looks funny, reaching across to the wand to turn it on. Harold, just pretend there’s a switch on the back pack itself.”

That’s how most of that stuff goes when the prop doesn’t quite fit the lay out of the scene.

If I ever get around to adding lights to my pack (ha ha!) I’ve always wanted to make the [crank knob](https://www.gbfans.com/shop/crank-knob) the on/off switch, not because of [the phantom](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/characters/the-phantom) switch theory but because it seems the most practical.

After all, if the [proton pack](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/equipment/proton-pack) was a real machine, how would a person turn on?

No, but it you turn it long enough the Ghostbusters theme plays and a miniature Stay Puft pops out of the EDA Box.

Cheers,

I thought he reaches up.. and presses the resistor on the [ion arm](https://www.gbfans.com/shop/aluminum-welded-ion-arm).. my wooden pack I bought had a radio shack pushbutton there.. and I just thought it was supposed to be there..
