The title explains itself, I own a Spirit Halloween 85% Size Proton Pack and don’t exactly want to buy a whole new pack for modding/decorating. I’d also prefer stuff on the cheaper side!
As always, it really depends on how much you want to do and what kind of budget you have. Also what you want to do with it: display, troop, Halloween, etc. I did one for my son and I’d say the must have(s) would be to replace the mobo (whether you amke your own or buy one) and add an ALICE frame. The stock straps will work, but you’ll be happier you upgraded.
If you want, theres some great kits out there to replace the fittings with real ones and with better tubing. It gives it a definite cosmetic upgrade.
If you are so inclined, replacing the electronics is another option too. I’d just replace the wand while you’re at it.
Etsy and this site are your best friends when it comes to modding. Both for ideas and parts.
Jaxson, take this from someone who built my first pack 20 years ago…ive made/modded 4 traps, the spirit full size, the haslab 84 wand, and an ECU…
DON’T!!! Love your toy for what it is. Don’t go down this wonderfully intriguing, rewarding, detailed, devisive, obsessive rabbit hole.
No toy will ever be accurate enough. Save your money and either build or buy your own accurate pack.
Alright, it has been a while, and I think I’m almost finished with changing up the pack! Yes, i didnt follow beric’s advice, but i am REALLY happy with how it came out! It is a bit of a hot-glue pile, but it looks good! I used silver sharpie on the edges, added some lego to hold the wand better, added a bronze colored pencil for the ion arm, removed the button on the wand and replaced it with a proper button that is placed where the push button should go (I don’t know the proper naming), put better hosing on it, replaced the blue wire on the wand with part of a green straw, put the wand’s blue wire next to the red wire for the injector tubes, and decorated it with some stickers, a new clear end tube bit on the neutrona wand, and used some extra hosing to make the front grip on the wand look cool. Overall, looks GREAT for what I am working with! Only thing I’d like to add would be a ALICE frame (probably home-made so it can scale well.)

Ok, I’m back. I cant really tell if I’m on a new account or anything but seeing as I have a whole bunch of new info I think I am. I am GBJaxsonS if you couldnt tell. I got those pics you asked for! But they are a bit low quality and part of the wand is broken, so I’ll have to see if I can take some better pics at a later time.
final image of wand. (Also, I think the new button in the correct spot is pretty cool. I don’t know why Spirit didn’t do that, it seems like something that coulda been done pretty easily instead of having to make your thumb go all the way to the top of the thing.)
One of the best mods you can do for the spirit pack is the Tacobelli cyclotron. At first it seems like a really daunting task - slicing off the existing cyclotron - but it is actually far easier than it seems to be.
You can make quick work of the cut with mindful use of a Dremel cutoff wheel. Putting the new cyclotron on is very forgiving and will cover up any rough cuts you may have let slip. You can also fill in any spots with filler as needed. The new cyclotron would bring your pack to a whole new level and you would be proud of taking the dive on the mod once you have completed it.
I modded a scaled spirit pack several years ago and had a blast doing it. My only regret is not doing the cyclotron mod sooner.
