I feel like at least they had her back but did it in a different enough way, where she wasn’t so much the victim as much Oscar was the target. :whatever:

> to think that Venkman gets Dana, loses her, and wins her back again and loses her seems to be a little pathetic for the character. .

I’ve agreed with this part before, and I still do. For all the complaints I had about GB2, having Dana in it was not one of them: it solidified her status as Venkman’s genuine “true love”, or at least the one woman in the world he would actually settle down with. The idea that he lost her and had to win her again provided a little bit of verisimilitude to her not even being mentioned in the cartoon.

Granted, having Dana be a focus of [the video game](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/games/ghostbusters-the-video-game) or any additional movies is problematic, and would call for at least some further “Why does this stuff keep happening to me?” lampshading, but on the other hand, if the character is not acknowledged at least in dialog (ie “So how mad is Dana that you’re missing another one of Oscar’s birthday parties to go save New York again, Peter?”) it’s a rather loud knock against the project. If they decide to go the pathetic route, fine, then Venkman is pathetic. I can see and [understand](http://www.ectozone.com/apocrypha/gbct5.php) that. Having Venkman be “serious” about some other woman, on the other hand, would be a great big middle finger to the character as portrayed in the first two movies.

Of course, Aykroyd and Ramis proved in the second movie they’re more than willing to give that middle finger to their characters’ personal lives, so I guess we can expect anything. I mean, Grife, Ramis cockblocked his own character.

It’s really refreshing to see so much support for the Venkman character arc. I’ve never really understood the Dana-bashing I sometimes see on the net, [Sigourney Weaver](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/people/sigourney-weaver) gave [Bill Murray](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/people/bill-murray) his best leading lady twice over - if he ever really ‘acts’ (for want of a better word)in his 80’s comedy output, it’s with her.

And the Han and Leia analogy is a fantastic shorthand for why the character should be at least paid lip service.

Heh, that’s because from what I understand/remember Fritz, I believe Ramis once said that he never liked the Egon-Janine pairing.

Awhile back on [Proton Charging](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/fans/websites/proton-charging):

> In this month’s issue of German gaming magazine, PC Action, Terminal Reality executive producer Brendan Goss spoke a bit about the game and the cast - the most interesting reveal was the mention of Alyssa Milano as part of the cast. No word on her role, though it’s not hard to assume she will be voicing the new love-interest and damsel in distress. Thanks to Andreas for the heads up and stay tuned for more info!

Well, of course at least some of it is the Venkman fan girls who think Dana would be “in the way” of Venkman sexing their Mary Sues or Egon. It’s the same hate some Egon fan girls shovel on Janine (though the latter tends to be worse because Janine appeared in every version of the property and Dana didn’t)

Ask some fans of _Star Wars_ and _Harry Potter_–there are issues that they strenuously disagree with George Lucas, JK Rowling, and [Harold Ramis](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/people/harold-ramis) on, creators or not. I think the number of fans who thought the sleazy, embarrassing Janine/Louis thing in GB2 was better has been rather small (and primarily, though not totally, composed of aforementioned Egon fangirls)

Damn. I like Sigourney. She plays a great straight man for Murray to play jokes off of.

That’s too bad. But honestly I like how it’s someone new because I was asking myself, why is Dana always the focus of attention for the next end of the world scheme by the ghost world? I think that should be compounded upon in a future story. It reveals her bloodline is important or something, also explaining Oscar being used by Vigo. I do dislike Venkman going after another girl, but in defense, do you know how hard relationships are? To say he lost her again, even if she definitely is “THE ONE,” is sadly very realistic. Tell me that none of you have ever been in a serious relationship, lasting anywhere from half a year to half a decade or whatever, and suddenly you lost THE girl? Sure, you try to win her back, and sure maybe you do for a time, but in the end, after perhaps a long depression period, you’re faced with the overwhelming fact that you’ve got to find someone else, even if you run the risk that the next girl isn’t THE one. And maybe it turns out that Dana never really was the one. Maybe Venkman marries a nice girl that’s nowhere near as interesting or close to his work as Dana got, but he’s got a good thing going on with someone who loves him enough not to leave him. And maybe Dana’s son will walk into GB HQ, putting her back into his life, and start making Venkman’s life difficult, ha ha ha… Sorry for the rant. I know real life isn’t something people want to see in movies though. We like to watch movies to give us hope that maybe things really can turn out for the better. And they can in real life. But that doesn’t mean there aren’t disappointments, failures, or those boring shots between the action segments, lol. But yeah, totally sucks that Venkman would lose her again. I hope he acts like a total loser to Illysa in this game and makes some sort of mention that he’s not doing well after Dana leaving him. Besides, do you really think that Aykroyd and Ramis will really include this game in the continuity of a third movie, or do you think they won’t even mention its story so no one has to play the game to understand the time period between GB2 and 3? Hey, just an interesting thought. I hope they make the game canon though and do refer to it, although it shouldn’t play too heavy part in the third intsallment.

Well since Dan and Harold wrote it and all but 2 of the original cast is back I think it’s a sure thing this will be part of canon. But keep in mind that if there is a 3rd movie it will be almost 2 decades after the time the game takes place. There would be no need to mention anything in the game.

Basically you could look at it like this. The first 2 movies and the game are like Star Wars eps 4-6. Any new movies could be considered eps. 1-3, only, you know, not pre-quels. We can expect to see some very familiar things in a 3rd movie, but it will likely be very new.
