GB2 pack or not, the point Namebrand was getting at is that the original part (ie the first [bumper](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/equipment/proton-pack/bumper) they made before they cast the rest of them) was fabricated because you can still see lines from where pieces were put together, even after the casting process.

In my opinion, if it were a found item, I doubt it’d have been made from anything but metal, and you tend to weld metal together, so you would see weld lines, not seams (apart from the casting seam) where the parts were put together. You can clearly see seam lines where the top and bottom portions of the “[ion knob](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/equipment/proton-pack/ion-knob) mounting face” were stuck on.

My vote is fabbed for the film, possibly based off of found items (be it light mount, real [cyclotron](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/equipment/proton-pack/cyclotron) parts, or spare tire holders),

That’s the hero pack re-purposed from GB1 for GB2, basically it’s the same as it was in GB1 with a few cosmetic bits changed. The same marks can be seen on the OMNI pack [bumper](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/equipment/proton-pack/bumper) though (even more pronounced even given the glossy paint on it).

I agree with namebrand.

in addition to the planet hollywood Minnesota pack, I believe the screen-used pack that was photographed at that convention in the UK was also a GB1 pack which was slightly modified and re-used in GB2. I say this because of the [ion arm](https://www.gbfans.com/shop/aluminum-welded-ion-arm) setup, the misshapen [cyclotron](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/equipment/proton-pack/cyclotron) rings and the angle of both the vhook and the fittings on the HGA. The [bumper](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/equipment/proton-pack/bumper) certainly looks like it was cast from a handmade master and done quickly at that. It’s too uneven to be any kind of production piece.

Is it just me or does it look like the front (center area) of the [bumper](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/equipment/proton-pack/bumper) looks like it was “filled in” before casting? I can see a very faint line following the contour of the top and bottom “ears”

You know, it’s too bad the [bumper](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/equipment/proton-pack/bumper) doesn’t say ‘ticonderoga’ on it, or we’d know exactly what it was made from.

Wow, lots of good speculations on the parts. I realized the other day that the HGA is about the same size as a small candle at WalMart. And, the giant [bumper](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/equipment/proton-pack/bumper) on the real-world cyclotrons make sense. It’s just hard to accept that there are so many “real” parts that something so prominent as the Bumper frame and the HGA would be “real” too. I assume most of the stickers are from real parts, what part was the HGA sticker originally on? What is the “A.C. Ball Company?”

With Star Wars props, it’s pretty easy to chat with former Prop Masters, what about the guys who made the GB Packs?

They are probably hiding from anyone wanting to bother them about pack building..

I can one hundred percent guarantee you that the [bumper](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/equipment/proton-pack/bumper) is NOT a yolk from a lighting instrument.

I’ve been working with stage and movie lights off and on now for over five years, and have never seen anything that resembles the bumper.

I always thought the [bumper](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/equipment/proton-pack/bumper) looked like a bracket to hold a spare tire under a car or truck…

See above where we’ve discussed that you can see the visible signs of how the [bumper](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/equipment/proton-pack/bumper) was built from scratch. Add on that everything is uneven on it, the top and bottom “tabs” aren’t even the same. A production made piece would have more uniformity, and they’d be VERY unlikely to make something meant to support heavy lights with one side intentionally weaker than the other by way of being significantly thinner.

Yeah, I saw all that. I was just reiterating what you had said, the real [bumper](https://www.gbfans.com/wiki/equipment/proton-pack/bumper) does look very layered, like you said.

Also, are they not made from foam rubber?

Heh heh, I misread what you wrote…I hastily read it and assumed you were saying it looked like a lighting bracket. Sorry about that.

The casts seem to be some sort of firm rubber, the master was probably carved from wood or foam.
