2012: Year of the Ban Hammer?

I went ahead and registered us for 60 members and eight Ectos. I know we put a deadline in the other thread for DC, but if we get more folks/cars, I can add them via the DC people.

There was someone by the name of Krissi who already registered two people as GBs. I’m going to assume that could be her in that photo you shared.

Probably, her name on FB is listed as Kristian…

Also she has responded

So did someone else message her?

Anyway here’s what I wrote back,

"I have not “had” anyone curse at you, and I don’t condone that sort of behavior.

I appreciate the timing was unfortunate but none of us were aware of the kickstarter untill yesterday.

Again, you are not welcome at P.K.E. Surge or GaGB events"

She’s posted again, and per her request can one of the mods take that pic off my first post?

I don’t plan on writing her again, I’m not attempting to start a debate, just to let her know they aren’t welcome at our events and that’s been done.

Wow I wasnt even done typing that and she message me again.

..

Funny she can’t afford to build a pack but she can afford lawyers.

I don’t agree with their kickstarter campaign, but this is all kind of dickish. It’s really not any of our business what they do, however dumb it may be.

you know, instead of a lemonade stand, i have a job and save money. if i cant buy it, i put it off until i can just like everyone else. i dont care about these two people; im all about ruining their good time because what they did is ethically wrong. wearing those costumes after all this wont be any fun for them, and they deserve that.

for the record, it certainly wasnt me who sent them an email. i was looking the other night to see this super microcontroller and i stumbled on to that. i wish i was 6 days sooner( not that i believe it really would have made a difference).

now, how do we campaign kickstarter so the people behind that service or whatever it is put an end to cosplayers funding their costumes?

At this point yeah, I agree with kevinj319. If she’s threatening lawyers (for some…reason) it’s pointless to keep going now. Only thing to do is to keep ourselves out of their business. If they get in trouble one way or another we’ll just sit back and go “I told you so.” Now if the plans she’s giving out is like, Stefan’s plans or something? Then I can see a bigger issue there.

The worst part is, she’s right. This isn’t going to be the last time we see a OMFG GUYS GIVE ME MONEY TO BUILD SOMETHING FOR MYSELF; AND ONLY MYSELF Kickstarter. KS needs to buckle down on some of this ■■■■.

I agree, like I said, I just wanted to let her know they aren’t welcome at our events and that’s been done so I’m not writing back.

Also since she refrenced gbfans in the kickstarter post I’d be willing to bet she pulled the plans from here.

But again, my point has been made so I’m good.

I don’t really agree with what is going on here… but that being said… this made me laugh:

I don’t recall ever giving permission to her to copy a bunch of information (quotes, pictures.. plans.. etc) from GBFans and using them directly on her Kickstarter page to make money from work that GBFans and others have done. If she is looking for my sympathy she will not find it after a comment like that.

how about you just do what she ask she not a part of the group and you guy did start this in the first place. all she has to do is show this page to DC and your group Chace no matter how bigger wont be allowed ,unless you created the ghostbusters movie it self (quotes, pictures.) the you should then you should of left it alone

I pledged. It’s been a long time since I’ve gotten a hand written thank you note.

:nicejobyoudid:

If you give me $25 I too will post progress pictures of my build and send you a link to the reference section.

Please! I really like Ghostbusters

THIS.. from a MODERATOR??

I’d report it, but that seems kinda redundant..

Yes, though since you’re new here (i just approved your post) you don’t know me, the audience or the inflection I typically put into my speech. For the record, I was not saying that the people need to be literally hit physically. I was pointing out that typically people who do things like use kickstarter to fund personal projects don’t and won’t understand why what they did is wrong in the opinion of the group here unless pointed and unambiguous action is taken against them. Chase has done this, the fact that these people are obviously geting worked up and haveing people sign up for the boards just to bitch at us about it proves that. We’ve done what we felt was necessary, it’s over, we’re moving on.

THIS…from SOMEONE NEW??

What jack said wasn’t wrong at all. Welcome to the internet.

Wait…she had 2 people massage her for free and she is complaining? I can’t even get the g/f to give me a massage.

A moderator is supposed to do just that. In most of the boards I’ve been on, that are civil places, that sort of statement would be adjusted, edited, or outright deleted. Now.. my being new has nothing to do with having an opinion. So, your statement is implying I should never question moderators? It’s okay to object, but don’t type it out? If I’m not with you, I’m against you?

I was given a link. The board is open to the public. I joined and commented. My first post was rejected. I did not find it wrong or offensive, but I did not fight the moderation and repost the comments. This was let through and responded to. The conversation is starting to become an internet flamewar. I will not push it further by feeding trollish responses with similar replies. I object to what was said and why. I object to the tone and attitude in this thread. I am communicating this calmly. I am not “Bitching” anyone out.

I am a Dragoncon attendee and have marched in the parade for almost ten years. I have never seen this level of exclusionary tactics and infighting and I think it should stop. Getting the clarification that physical violence was not intentionally advocated is wonderful. Why would you think online bullying is any better? There are no threats, name calling or demands in this reply. That is on purpose. Dragoncon is a special place. It exists because the community stands together in fandom and just enjoys itself. Please reconsider your actions.

As I pointed out, being new to THIS forum, you don’t know the regulars who post here, how they typically interact and how their words are typically inflected or ment. As you point out this goes both ways though personally I feel the ritcheous incredulity you expressed with how you responded to my post would qualify as bitching without knowing anything about you, your motives or intentions in signing up to post in this discussion.

I’ve been to Dragoncon for the last 3 years and various other cons and costuming fandoms for over 12. I can’t speak for your experiences but this thread is not only typical of every “community” I’ve ever been in no matter how peripherally it’s so far been fairly benign compaired to the vitreolic slug-fests that have been the major shaper of the internet and fandoms since the concepts of such began.

In response to your point about moderators I will simply say that every community is different and everyone’s idea of moderation, what it entails and requires and what it SHOULD do is different. Of the half dozen forums I frequent every one has different standards of interaction. Forcing your social standards though incredulity on a forum you know nothing about isn’t an argument in favor of your position.
