So my cousin and I sit down at a local hole in the wall hamburger place to have lunch, as I over here some kids (when I say kids, I’m mean my age, 20’s) at the table next to us have a conversation about Ghostbusters. It went something like this…
Dude #1: “I didn’t like Ghostbusters.”
Dude #2: “Why not?”
Dude #1: “That movie freaked me out as a kid, it was friggin’ scary… I’m not even going to let my kids watch it.”
Anyway, they went on a little more, but that was the just of their conversation. I thought it was kind of funny and pathetic at the same time. :lol: But whatever… I think what prompted their conversation was a NECA Stay Puft Marshmollow Man figure standing behind the counter.
Hmm, someone scared of Ghostbusters, it was more funny then scary. Actually I was scared of Vigo when I was yonger. Sometimes he still freaks me out. LOL
I was Terrified of the first one the library scene…but loved it, then the second one came out and i saw that one and i shit my pants all over again because Vigo is a scary mofo…nuff said haha
Dude, my friend’s mom said she spent 50% of the movie with her eyes closed and that she couldn’t stand scary movies and I was like “There is 1 scary scene in the whole movie and it lasts 3.4 seconds!”
It’s funny that both of you mention Vigo. My best friend, when the movie came out, was scared shitless over Vigo and would not go see the movie a second time… Whn we’d go trick or treating dressed as Ghostbusters, he was always too scared to go to the “scary houses.” It was funny because when ever I put on my uniform, I became fearless on Halloween… or maybe I just bcame stupid? :lol:
That’s pretty funny. I saw the 1st one in the theatre with my parents and a family friend when it first came out. Ghostbusters came out in '84, so I would have been 5 then. I remember a few parts were “scary” namely the beginning with the librarian, but I loved the movie. We made a copy off of tv years ago and that was the only copy of it that I had up until just this past Christmas when I got the DVD boxset with both movies. Anyway, I watched that tape over and over again as a kid even at times when I was home alone and it never once bothered me.
Actually now as an adult when I watch it some of the scenes and music seems more scary now then it did when I was little. When you’re a kid you don’t always pick up on things even when they’re clearly meant to be scary. Some of the things I find most disturbing is the scene where Pete enters Dana’s apartment and finds all the slime on the walls and her being possessed.
Let’s see.. I was born the year the first one came out - alas I fear that my parents probably didn’t take a newborn to the fine film. But I was 5 when the second one came out, and my parents totally took me to that one. I thought it was GREAT! Didn’t scare me a bit from what they tell me. I got the little Hardees key chains and my parents told me the first real names I could actually say were, “Doctor Venkman, Ray Stantz, Egon and Winston.” My parents say their fondest memories of me as a child were of their 2-year old sailing around the living room with gb figures clenched in both hands. Ahhh..good times.
I remember seeing the commercial for those. But we don’t have Hardees out here in California, we do where my family is from in Minnesota. Unfortunetly, that was just about the only summer in my childhood that I didn’t go back to my Grandparents house so I never got them… But I did get one about a year ago here on the web. Cool thing was, it still worked.
If you check out http://www.retrojunk.com and do a search for “Ghostbusters,” you should find that Hardees commercial. It used to be on there anyway.
Haha, thats pretty funny. Especially since as someone said before, there’s only one scary scene in the entire movie and its completely supersceded one second later by the hilarious scene of the Ghostbusters screaming and fleeing the scene. As for Ghostbusters 2, the only scary part was the heads on the pikes thing, which again is immediately followed by the train part and “where’s Ray?”.
I thrived on scary movies as a kid. Being Born in 82 I saw a lot of freaky stuff early on in my childhood. mainly movies like Terminator, Alien, Empire Strikes Back, etc. Let’s just say Ghostbusters freaked me out just enough. I wore out the Betamax tape I’m for sure going to let my kid’s watch it when the time comes, and is still one of my faves to this day. Thank God for the DVD format, I’ve watched them both 20+ times already.
when i saw the first movie i got freaked out at the end. but i think it was more because in the cartoon the staypuff man was nice and friendly but in the movie he was bad and the gbs killing him is what freaked me out more than the moive itself
I don’t remember ever being afraid of anything in Ghostbusters but when the 2nd movie came out I was about a year old and my brother was five, after he saw the scene where Oscar is kidnapped he would stand in my room with his GB toys on afraid Vigo would come and get me.
