I asked a similar question in a previous forum, except I was curious if it had happened in the theatrical version but not the home version (as I had heard some rumors, and I can’t remember the truth for myself).
There’s a much simpler reason I figure, in addition to the Slimer sequence there was meant to be a whole scene set on Liberty Island where each of the Ghostbusters discussed where their families came from, this was set during the ceremony we see briefly in the end credits. I figure that when this scene was ditched for the most part they decided to ditch the Slimer effects… it seems more likely to me then some hidden message as to whether or not there’d be a sequel based on whether Slimer appeared in the end credits or not. They didn’t know there’d be a sequel when they made the Slimer effects for the first film…
I read that the theatrical version had Slimer coming towards the camera at the end, just like in the first movie. When they released the movie on VHS they cut out the Slimer part. Why? I have no idea.
I think Dan said that the first film was meant to be a stand alone movie. Meaning, he told what he wanted to tell, and he didn’t really think a sequel was needed. But they wanted him to do one, so he wrote it along with Harold and he got pumped about it.
I heard that GBII was made due to the success of the the first and RGB. I think you’re just reading into the end too much. I hear frequently that the slimer ending was in the Theater verison but have yet to see proof of it. Unfortunatly I dont remember that far back. But it wouldnt surprise me, I wonder why they edited down half the stuff they did (The Ray possessed driving scene in particular)
What? Are you talking about me? Although yeah, I do remember hearing that GB2 was made because of the success of RGB. Still, Dan didn’t think a sequel was needed but he did it anyway. Now though, he’s more than eager to do a new Ghostbusters. Clearly, he’s very proud of where the franchise has gotten.
Its funny. My first copy of Ghostbusters was a tape my mom had recorded off of HBO that had stopped recording with just one or two minutes left. I used it for years. It wasn’t until over a decade later when I bought the dvd version and watched it that I saw Slimer at the end.

I think the demographic they were going for in GBII wouldnt mesh well with a scene where Ray was narrowly missing pedestrians, running red lights and saying that he is going to end it all while trying to ram a tree in an attempt to kill everyone in the ecto. (though that would be cool to see) The same reason why no one swears, drinks or really goes for any sexual innuendo except that hot Janine and Louis scene :eyeroll: “mmm french bread pizza makes me so hot!” I think Peter does say “shit” in the courtroom scene right before the Scoleri brothers go into the trap but they most definitely edited that out
I always assumed it was so loud you couldn’t hear him say it with all the noise. I dunno though. I hate on TV they cut it out and it screws with the music.
The larger question here, is why would he be saying that? Things don’t seem to be that bad off for him to be cursing the sitatution. O.o I always assumed that was what he was saying myself, but now that I reflect upon it, I can’t find a logical reason for it.
i always thought the fat Scoleri was gonna get away, he looked kinda out of control in Venkman’s beam. Or maybe we were meant to think there was a danger of crossing the streams? You can hear Ray say “no no no Spengy” I think. Maybe the Scoleris weren’t quite in position over the trap. :whatever: who knows!
It might have happened, depending on which town you live in or if you saw a sneak screening. I’ve been told it’s on the Laser Disc version of the movie… I haven’t had the chance to veiw it, until I get my hands on a laser disc player.
I have heard of different occations about some thing different or changed in the same scenes of a movie… again depending if you saw a sneak screening.
Not GB, put an example in TMNT 1, I have 2 friends that saw a sneak screening before it was released. The saw it in Cincinati, OH about 40 miles from Dayton and told me that Shredder’s speach to the Foot Clain was longer and much different… :whatever:
If anyone has seen the laser disk version, maybe they know if Slimer is at the end…
