Hey guys,
I attached a new Dixie mount to my pack instead of the cheapo Ace Hardware one. After putting it on, I am afraid the angle is too sharp. I tried to copy some reference photos but I am not sure where to find specific measurements.
I would say my pack’s gun is about a 20% angle. Any advice?

the angle does look too steep to me. but then again, i haven’t mounted mine yet, so…the real question is, does the thrower sort of curl over your shoulder? i believe that is the reason for the slant, to ease the deployment of the gun. how does it feel coming off the pack? if that is the correct position for your body, then so be it.
thats fine the throwers in the second movie look much like that the angle makes it easier to come off as the ones where almost strait up and down in the first and were a pain in the arse to use.

Ugh, my OCD is getting to me now and I am beginning to second guess myself. I just threw on GB2 and did in fact notice the angle but I am just not sure. Are there official dimmensions? I am comfortable with the angle for my body but I would like to make it as accurate as I can. Usually I make a balance between comfort and accuracy. Please help!
look @ the reference photos on the site (or the scene where winston opens ecto after the bday party) its pretty darn close to yours…thats about the angle i used on mine. it is definitely easier to pull. the only problem i have with mine is that if you lie it on the ground (alice frame lying downward), you may have to pull the thrower to avoid it applying to much force to the attachment site.
I am a huge dork I know. I made this to compare my angle. I am still a little iffy and it really drives me nuts when I am unsure about things regarding the pack. By the looks of this I’m ok.
Ok, last post I PROMISE.
I ended up changing my angle.
I do think this is a relevant issue for those who make packs. There is a noticeable difference between the angle of the wand on GB1 packs versus GB2 packs.
For those of you who are sticklers for accuracy, here is what I did to obtain my NEW angle. While I am still uneasy, I think I can relax a little more and tend to my knocking three times before I type each word. (I am just kidding about the OCD, but I AM rather obsessed with accuracy)
So here we go.
What I did was print this photo from my LA trip (This is Ray Stantz pack from GB2:
I then cut out the angle in between the straight edge to the left of the mount, and the where the mount begins. This left me with a small triangular shape. I then measured the angle with a protractor- EXACTLY 30 DEGREES. I ingnored the fact that the gun mount box was a little skewed because I know it is not supposed to be.
I was WAY wrong with my assessment that mt first angle was 20 degrees. It was over 40 degrees.
When I angled my dixie mount to 30 degrees (and raised it because my first attempt was too low) it looked much closer to how it should based on the photos you guys mentioned.
What I am left with is the seeming EXACT angle of the Ray Stantz pack from GB2. If I wanted the angle to represent GB1, I have found 20 degrees to be the appropriate angle.
Thus, the angle for a GB2 pack is 30 degrees whilst the GB1 pack is at 20 degrees.
Here is my pack as it is now. It still has a major angle, but I think you’ll find it close to what it needs to be.
Feel free to ignore me and my post, just thought it would be helpful if anyone cared about this issue.

I think that info is VERY important… one question though… i haven´t installed the gun hook yet… but i was planning on following stefan´s plan for that… it says 20 degrees… you think it will get uncomfortable??? or the gun might fall???

I am so glad you found it important too Sal. Now I feel less like a dork…
I measured 20 degrees and I realized it almost puts the gun at a straight angle making it nearly IMPOSSIBLE to pull it off the pack. If you watch GB 1, there is only ONE shot of a ghostbuster pulling the gun off the pack and that is when Ray Stanz pulls it off right after getting out of the elevator. If you watch closely enough, it is obvious the gun was ALREADY off the pack and he just pretends to pull it off.
Personally, I think they fixed this in GB2 because it really is difficult to get the gun off. (Stefans plans are GB1 plans)
But…
20 % wont affect its stability and it won’t be more likely to fall off.
You really can only pull the gun off once. Your never in a million years going to put it back so that is why it must hang on your belt. That means you should pick the angle that matches the look you want to achieve more (GB1 or 2). You can always just have the gun off when you put on the pack and hang it on your belt and keep the GB1 look when the pack is displayed.
Personally, I chose to make the angle 30 degrees because I thought the pack looks better, my pack looks more like a GB 2 pack anyway, and its way easier. If you are concerned about easy to pull it off the pack, you NEED to make the angle at last 30 degrees.
Either way, its up to your preference. I would go with 30 and I did. I promise I’ll show you pics tommorow to help with your decision.

Remember the court room scene when the guys kick butt in GB2? They all take the gun off the pack and man does it look cool!

Well in GB1 when they come out of the elevator is one scene , and on top of the shandor building right afther Murray says “this chick is toasted!” the 4 of them take out the guns… and by the look on his face.. for Murray is a litle difficult to reach…
But Yeah.. in the court room scene it looks so COOL!!!
Also… in that scene it looks that each one has it´s own methods of turning on the pack… it´s kind of comfusing what switch they turn… because they turn the whole wrist… but hey.. that´s moving your threat to a different direction isn´t it??? :lol:
:lol: all i have to say is most of us have PROTON PACKS! …and we spend more than enough time on this forum :shock: if one guy (or girl) tells another here they’re a dork, it’s a BAD case of the coal calling the kettle black, don’t you think?
also…i personally favor the GB2 angles of the throwers as well

i think you underestimate the importance of this issue, especially when looking for accuracy. before you updated this thread i was looking for the correct angles (although i did find to 20 degree one) because of an issue with the gun hook i have. long story short, im going with the 30, i like the look better.
untrue. it is doable, i was able to do it with my dixie hook… but then again i would have to check my angle to see what i put it as since i just “eyeballed it” although being as i didnt trust the dixie, i would venture to say that the angle is 25-30 degrees. the point is, with practice it is doable. not easy, have yet to do it on the first shot, but it is doable
I guess when your a spaz like me and you end up groaning and straining to get it back on the pack, the belt loop is A-OK. :lol:
I am glad you said you can do it Keoni because I am now going to practice. I don’t like having my precious wand bouncing on my knee and it would be nice to not have to rely on another person to put it back.
if you have an actual v-hook it should be easier. but the dixie hooks are tricky, they have to be lined up just perfect… believe me, i almost dropped the wand once. talk about almost having a heart attack
I am using the dixie mounts (for now), but I applied a small dab of grease to make it smoother and so far, that has helped.
