Greetings to all you fellow colleagues working in the spiritual containment business!
My Name is Sebastian, I´m 31 y.o. and live in Hannover,Germany. I stumbled across gbfans some months ago while googleing some Ghosttrap-pics, and yesterday I felt like joining the club!
My first contact with our favorite paranormal extinguishers was in 1984, when I saw a promotional clip from the original movie on german television, during a kids programme. They showed the library scene from the beginning, with the guys walking through the stacks and investigating the situation when the one bookshelf in the rear fell down. And I think there were also some moments with the Marshmallow-Man …
Sadly, I could not convince my parents to all go see the movie together, so I lost this battle (well, what convincing argument could a 6 y.o. give to be taken to a movie that was the equivalent of PG 12 at that time here…?!)
So life went on and I became an avid fan of all things Disney.
Until some day in late 1989, I saw another clip in a music-show on TV. … *“Wasn´t that the statue of Liberty walking down the street? And why are there flying monsters in the courtroom… those didn´t look like lawyers!!?”
*
I think what finally convinced me was the one shot of that cool looking car with all the stuff mounted on its rooftop, driving towards the encrusted Museum of Art at night, and the guys standing there with all their gear.
When the movie opened here in January 1990 I was pretty hyped, and boy, what a ride that was! Fell in love with the concept (mind you, to ME, it was new), the characters, Slimer, the car and the Equipment!!!
The down side was, I was also really afraid of Vigo and the slime-tub. Both scared the sh.. out of me, especially the shot of his head moving slightly out of the painting and nobody notices! Gave me the creeps! The only thing scarier than that was Judge Doom´s high pitch voice & darting red eyes appearance at the end of “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?”
I think GBII was also the first film I saw for a second time in cinema. fondmemories
Around that time my family got cable, so I was slightly surprised when I learned there was a Ghostbusters cartoon.
But why was there a big gorilla in it?
A friend then told me that the real show was on another cable channel.
I watched the RGB during the beginning of the Nineties and at that time really loved that show. Sure, there were some weak episodes, but it was fun to watch.
And I think I had a crush on Janine. Must´ve been those triangled glasses. Or her red hair.
My brother also watched, he liked Winston the most, while I prefered Egon. These were also the only action figures we had from the show. I remember I was pretty sad when I couldn´t afford the Ecto 1 toy, so instead I took Ecto 2, which to that point I had no idea it appeared on the show (missed some episodes).
Also read the translation of the GB comics here. I think it was not all US material but some unique german stuff as well. Curious, have to dig them up some time and have a closer look again…
During the past 6 years I became interested in prop-building, sculpting and molding and do some stuff when time and money allows for it. I´m always amazed when I see some near perfect reproductions over at the Replica Prop Forum of gadgets, equipment, costumes and stuff from genre movies. Someday, I would also like to add a protonpack and a trap of my own making to my list of heroic deeds upon this world… (but first I have to finish my Predator sculpt/costume).
That´s it for now, see you all around the forums! friendly salute
