The Scorpion asks the Frog to carry him across the river on his back. The Frog protests that the Scorpion could very well sting him on the trip, but the Scorpion says that would just doom them both, so the Frog agrees. Halfway across, the Scorpion stings the Frog, who understandably asks why. The Scorpion replies, “Because it is my nature. It is what I do.”
