The **Psycho-Kinetic Radiation Monitor **and Sampling Module, or **PKR Monitor **for short. Here’s what I was thinking…
Normal PKE levels, like those attained during normal busts, are harmless on this plane. However, if PKE reaches a critical level, like during the battle with Gozer, things can begin to give off psycho-kinetic radiation which can be deadly after prolonged exposure. After the Gozer bust, Egon recommended the uniforms be destroyed due to the high levels of PKE absorbed. He suspected the levels were high enough to emit fatal PKR.
The monitor is the large circuit board attached to the leather case on the belt. When deadly levels of PKR are detected, the nixie tubes light up to warn the boys. The PKR monitor is attached via a coiled patch cord to the sampling module (the small circuit board on the back of the pistol belt) that regulates the sampling of PKE, like the PKE meter does except this one’s not handheld. The sampling module periodically takes a reading of PKE, sends the info to the monitor and it lights up when the level is too high. The sampling module gets its sample by way of the leg hose.
Okay, so this is all fiction but I thought I’d throw it at the wall and see what stuck. We need a name instead of belt gizmo, circuit board thingy, or leather pouch doodad. What does everyone else think?
My vote is for the old names. I really appreciate the creativity, but while your explanation is good, it leaves me wondering the point of the PKE meter. Creative though, no doubt!
I’m in, I like it. Who knows if it’ll catch on here on the boards, but whenever someone asks me what it is while I’m out and about in my uniform I’ll be happy to use your explaination. Kudos to you for coming up with something and trying to get us all unified in a GB 'verse name for it.
I was under the impression that it kept track of the radiation from the packs, and if they were ever in use for too long, or were over radiating for whatever reason, the tubes lit up to warn you of impending doom.

That is an awesome explanation my friend Mr Aykroyd himself would probably be amazed! I coud definitely continue to call it the PKR. Nice work on coming up with a name and scientific explanation!
I like PKR. Makes sense and is elegant. Way better than Belt Gizmo.
I had the though that it could also serve as a mobile power supply for the PKE meter. If busters were trapped in another dimension or could not find a way out of a haunted house their PKE’s wouldn’t go dead.
I always thought it was a tester board for finding possible faults in the gear in the field. Say you hit the fire switch on the thrower and nothing happens what do you do? Well if your in a hot in hevy battle or between jobs in Ecto you use it as a tester
PKE power source makes sense; I was going to ask “how is it getting powered?”, but it might be able to convert a certain amount of “neutral” PKR into energy.
Huh, I have a motherboard tester that uses a similar setup (small PCB with a two-digit readout connected to a larger card). wonders what the error-code list would look like
