b-rad's first pack

So seeing that the new movie has really sparked a fire (not that it was ever gone) I’m finally going to start putting away money to build my first pack. Originally I was going to just save up enough and find someone to put it together for me which I tried to save for a few different time but never happened. I’ve made a few props (Warehouse 13 Farnsworth being the last I did about a year ago) but nothing this complex, but I have enjoyed working on the things I have so I think I’ll try and give it a shot but I’ll definitely need pointers along the way since I still consider myself at newbie status in terms of building knowledge. I’d like to do a reboot pack at some point aswell but since everything with all the part identification seems to be still in the “figuring it out” stage I’ll probably wait awhile on that.

Still piecing together what I want in terms of look and features [GB1, GB2, or Pack with warning light and Vent instead of the crank like in the game. Lights and sound are definite but considering the N-Filter smoke effect]

I did have one question to kinda kickstart this, I’ve done a little poking around but never really found a thread discussing this. I think a fiberglass shell and aluminum motherboard is obvious, but in terms of all the other parts I’m trying to figure out whether to go with resin or aluminum parts. I guess what I want to know is what are the advantages/disadvantages of both, weight is one concern I have and obviously all aluminum parts would make it heavier but is the weight trade off worth durability?

The weight difference isnt what you would think it was…on most of the small parts anyway…yeah resin is lighter, but aluminum is pretty F-ing light. Aluminum is hella more durable…the disadvantage it has isn’t so much the weight difference, it’s the expense.

So basically its the old, “you get what you pay for” adage…Personally I would, and have, gone aluminum whenever possible.

Yea I certainly believe in the you get what you pay for so in that respect I want to make this the best I can make it. I’ve wanted one of these as I’m sure everyone here has since I was a kid so if that means saving a little longer to get an awesome end result so be it.
