BlkMesaHero Sound Upgrade

I recently finished upgrading my Proton Pack to include the GBFans Sound Board. Since so many people are having issues Aj asked me to take some photos of my finished pack and post them.

What I have done here is add the GBFans Sound Board to my existing setup which consisted of; The R2Devo V7 for both the Proton Pack and the Wand Kit, a single 9.6v 1600mah NiCad battery, and an On/Off Switch used as a Master Cut Off to preserve power in the battery.

My new setup consists of; R2Devo Pack and Wand Lights V7, The GBFans Sound Board, 2 X Lithium Polymer Batteries 7.4v @ 4000mah, A DPDT Master Cut Off connected to the Light and Sound kits, 2 X Pioneer 6 inch speakers, and DPDT switches in the Wand. I have also added several connectors to make it easy to take the whole mess apart for easy maintenance, repairs, and further upgrades.

I did my best to keep the overall setup I had before and just add to it.

What I have done to my Mother Board is to add an additional connector for a second battery and mount speakers to the board.

The hole on the Left is the battery port for the Sound kit. Since the Sound Kit doesn’t have it’s own On/Off switch you have to add one in line between the Battery and the Sound Board. Which is why you see the Black Lead connecting to the Master Cut off and leading away, The Master Cut Off is also connected to the On/Off Screw Terminals on the R2Devo Pack Lights, this allows both kits to have the power cut off completely. The Connector on the Right is the battery port for the Light Kits. All of these wire leads go in to a 6 Pin Molex Connector. This connector allows me to disconnect the Mother Board from the Pack Shell completely making repairs, maintenance, and upgrades easier by letting me work on parts without having them all attached to one another. This same logic applies to the Speaker Connector, 2 Pin Molex connector.

The only item of note in these photos is that I have removed the N Type Panel Jack I used to connect the battery before. I have change to a Deans Connector Lead going straight from the Battery, through the Mother Board using a Stress Relief Bushing, to the Molex connector. This simplified the connectors and removed two breaks in the power flow that I had before.

In this image not much has changed, the only difference from before is that the Shell Molex Connectors are visible.

Ok this image has a bunch of stuff involved here. First off, I have never liked having my boards or wire loose in the shell. That is just the SatCom guy in me trying to think ahead. So I put both the Light Kit and the Sound Boards on their own Daughter Board. I have also remote-ed the Volume Control to the Crank Knob. There is also a Pig Tail I created with some Cat-5e and a Female RJ-45 connector for all of the connections to the Sound Board. You can also see the connection made by the Molex Connectors into the power and on/off functions.

And finally here is a close up of the Sound Board as it sits in my pack. You can see the Cat-5e leading into the Screw terminals for the Sound Board and the Speaker.

Ok now that you see what I have done in the Pack I am going to have to explain what I did in the Wand/Gun. In the Wand all of the Switches have been replaced with DPDT. Each Switch has 4 leads, 2 going to the R2Devo Wand Lights and 2 going to an Cat-5e cable I added some connectors to allow each switch to be completely removed. The Power and Fire Switches are setup so the lights and sounds fire at the same time, the Theme Song Switch just goes right back to the Sound Board, and the Vent Switch is it’s own deal there.

I set it up so that the Up position turns on the Vent Light, the Center position is Off, and the Down position triggers the Vent sound. You can see it in action in this Video I am liking to,

ETA: The Master Cut Off

The Reason I have this is so that I can cut power completely to everything. The Power indicators can drain the batteries over time so have an ability to cut the power and shut them off is in my best interest to conserve power over time.
